I've solved the problem of the MIDI file which consists only of rests. (Thanks are due to Joe Offer.)

I opened the nwc file and copied the music using control +C. Then I opened a new file, pasted the saved notes using control+v, then Saved As a .mid file. It worked.

Apparently the nwc notes were music-flavored, and it wanted them to be electronic-flavored - or something like that.

Nigel: who's Mike Batt? Guest: I will check out alt.music.folk.

POST it to alt.music.folk

The archive will last longer than the DT or Max's mirage.

Careful, with a lullaby consisting solely of rests you may find yourself a co-defendent with Mike Batt!

Dick, lullabyes consisting entirely of rests have been tried many times over the ages, but they just don't work -- at least not for babies. For adults, they might.

Somebody made a comment on a different thread that lullabyes are too short. Little did she suspect! What you have to do is start singing in a normal voice, then repeat the song as many times as needed, each time a little softer. Finally the kid slips off into sleep.

I remember my mother doing that with my nephew. He was staying at Grandma's incident to the birth of a little sister, and he couldn't go to sleep in a strange room with his mother nowhere around! So my mother sang "Pony Boy" over and over and over. And each time she finished, he gave a little tug to her sleeve to make her sing it again, until finally...

Hmm. A lullaby consisting entirely of rests might be soothing at that.

Thanks, MMario. I have e-mailed it to alison, as directed on the page referred to above.

Unfortunately, when I tried to make a MIDI file, my computer produced a version consisting entirely of rests. So I sent Alison the version called Icelandic_Lullabye.nwc and hoped that would be all right. Do you think it will work?

If posting here don't forget to put
at the end of each line
sod it I meant to say (BR) only the use triangular brackets (shift , and shift .) and I'm too lazy to figure the code for the literal characters of <>.

Leeneia, the easiest thing would be to send John the file via email. If you reset your cookie so you are a member again, you can send him a personal message and ask him for his email address. Then send the NWC and/or MIDI file (I usually send both) as an attachment to your email message.

Alternatively, or additionally, you can check here at Alan of Oz' Mudcat Midi Page for instructions on how to post your MIDI file so John and other 'Catters can access it. Nice to hear from you again.

Aloha,
Mark

Here's the deal. John C. is looking for an Icelandic song to do at a gig, and I have a song worked up off a tape. I can put it onto Noteworthy Composer, either as an NWC file or a MIDI file.

Once that is done, how do I proceed so that John C can log on and retrieve the song? (It doesn't have any lyrics.)

And can I include the guitar chords when I send it in?

(I tried searching the Mudcat site for instructions but didn't find any.)
