Subject: RE: Anyone doing Karrimor 2002? From: John J Date: 07 Sep 02 - 11:01 AM Thanks to you both! Ray, I've heard about the poly bag idea which I'll certainly use. The idea of wandering around the midway camp with soggy socks doesn't sound like a lot of fun. The slit-trench latrines sound, er, practical. It's been suggested that I triple wrap my loo paper. Wiping your bum with soggy loo roll is worse than walking round camp with wet socks on. I've wandered around the Cheviot before, and late at night. It was a choice of walking through 1" of water or 6" of water! I've got waterproof socks, but once water gets over the top they'll be useless. Dave, sorry I'll miss the festival. :-( Whilst you're conducting serial quality assurance tests on the Robbies Best, I'll be trying re-hydrate some dehydrated sausage & mash in a gale, up a mountain, in pouring rain. Sounds like fun doesn't it!!?? Cheers, John |

Subject: RE: Anyone doing Karrimor 2002? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 07 Sep 02 - 10:32 AM Phew!!! Looks good John. Pity I missed the deadline for all but Elite and LS class. Maybe I am in those categories? ;-) Apart from that it is on the weekend of Swinton festival! How can you miss us?!?!? Funnily enough our works year end event in October is a bit of Orienteering and some gorge scrambling. Next year maybe... I'll think of you on the Saturday as I sink a few pints of Robbies in the White Lion. I may be incapable of thought on the Sunday! Cheers and good luck once more. Dave |

Subject: RE: Anyone doing Karrimor 2002? From: BanjoRay Date: 06 Sep 02 - 08:53 PM I did it 7 or 8 times back in the late seventies and early eighties - superb event, where you do some sneaky navigation over bits of superb country you wouldn't normally go near. I'm far past that sort of thing now, though. Here's a challenge: write a song about the latrine trench at the halfway camp that'll convey how revolting it is. Don't forget to take some plastic bags to put between your socks and your trainers at the halfway camp to keep your feet warm Cheers |

Subject: RE: Anyone doing Karrimor 2002? From: GUEST,John J..not a guest, honest! Date: 06 Sep 02 - 01:09 PM Hi Dave! The KIMM is the Karrimor International Mountain Marathon, run in a different (wild) part of the UK each year. This year it's in the Cheviot in Northumberland. It's a two day event and you need to be self-supporting for the whole period. Have a look at www.kimm.com Fancy coming along? :-) I know of one other singer who's coming, but his overnight camp, whilst unknown until the start of the event, will be different to mine. I don't know about being fit....it begins with 'F', but I'm sure it's not fit! Cheers, John |
