Subject: RE: Tall ship 'Prince William' in Hull UK Oc From: Amos Date: 06 Oct 02 - 11:45 AM Oh, quite right; quelle faux pas! Charley, I sympathize, but given the scarcity of tall ships in the world, I do think you're being a bit picky!! :>) A |

Subject: RE: Tall ship 'Prince William' in Hull UK Oc From: Charley Noble Date: 06 Oct 02 - 11:24 AM In my opinion the Prince William looks less than lovely, with her spar deck cluttered with a wheel house and other cabins. Yes, such cabins do provide more amenities for the crew but I'd much rather be looking at a tall brig replica such as the Niagra. Still if the Prince William's folks offered me a berth as shantyman, I wouldn't turn up my nose. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Tall ship 'Prince William' in Hull UK Oc From: GUEST Date: 06 Oct 02 - 07:45 AM Correct, guest. She's a brig, square rigged on only two sails, designed to be manpower(sorry, but personpower just doesn't sound right!) intensive but still easy to sail. PW has 18 sails (total area nearly 1000 sq. m), and generates over 800HP when correctly trimmed: she can make better than 12 knots under sail. |

Subject: RE: Tall ship 'Prince William' in Hull UK Oc From: GUEST Date: 06 Oct 02 - 03:10 AM To be pedantic, it's not a bark; which is: A sailing ship with from three to five masts, all of them square-rigged except the after mast, which is fore-and-aft rigged |
