Otherwise, I'd'a been sitting there at the flashing light by Jack's Store, knowing I was a couple miles from the camp but not knowing how to find it. (Apparently, I came into Ocean Park from a direction unanticipated in my written directions, so turning right at the light had me going entirely in the wrong direction.) But, as I said, everybody knows how to get there, and a guy at Jack's offered to "go home that way" so I could follow him. Gotta love these small towns. Pretty drive back to Portland from Astoria via Rte. 30, BTW -- even when the skies are hazy. Yeah, Mary, it was great singing with you and Lorna. Too bad the lack of sleep started getting to Lorna. But I got back to PDX just in time to unpack before dark. TTFN, Genie |

It was great singing with Genie and Lorna at the very end...I still miss someone...what great voices...and we'll all remember Sheila's Craisin cookies... The dishwasher was a downer. If anyone knows of anyone in the Washington/Oregon area who is replacing an industrial dishwasher and could donate to a church camp, they would love it. Actually, I think an ordinary home dishwasher would do. But Amergin did a great job keeping it going..as well as reciting his poems and singing some of his original songs... Some things I had planned to do just didn't happen..like getting there with a couple of others in time to set up the kitchen and prewash some dishes etc...also the sign situation to the camp with several along the way was not good...but it all somehow worked and as far as I know no one is still on the road looking for it... mg |

But I did get there in time for the wonderful salmon and cobbler and chocolate-chip cookies Saturday evening and the great omelettes and french toast Sunday morning. Lots of good music both Saturday night and early Sunday. A good bunch of folks to share the music, food, etc. Looking forward to next year when I hope to be able to make the whole weekend instead of just the last half. Genie |

I am majorly sleep-deprived and coffee-wired, hallmarks of a great music camp. Had a fine bunch of singers and just enough instrumentalists, no bodhran, though mary herself plays a piano accordion! Singer-songwriters, old timey folks and just the right mix of everything except the promised sunshine. Got to see the cranberry harvest in a tour provided by mary, and we went down to the docks and mugged someone, coming back to camp with a 12 pound salmon for saturday dinner. Amergin sang his originals, Sandy Bob brought banjo, guitar, his own and other people's songs and Rita, who also sings wonderful stuff. SB, would you be willing to post your "Hard to Get a Job under W"? Genie was also there and some other once in while mudcatters. Couple local sisters dropped in and sang German songs and rounds in exquisite harmony - and were surprised to find a number of us also knew German songs. Genie did De Lorelie with them. mary sang her songs, and others and kept the home fires going, everything running smoothly and got us all packed off today. Thanks again, mary. I don't think I've ever had better food at a music camp, and we did it ourselves. Mary set out the food and people pitched in and made it into meals. Wow. Great job, mary, everyone. It was truly a wonderful collection of people..and I was thinking because it was a small group of about 20-25 at times, every single person was so important and would have been missed...I really enjoy the smaller groups...and we just had some great music night and morn. Weather was misty but not bad. Camp was plenty warm. The salmon dinner was just fantastic..Jon P made salmon and cranberry relish, and Sheila made apple cranberry cobbler and someone stretched the rules and brought wine (for medicinal purposes). We are all cleaned up and hopefully people are getting safely home now. mg |

All weekend, $50; come Sat. $30; Sat. only, $14, Sun. only $12. Not sure how long people will stay on Sunday..3 or 4 at the latest I would guess, but we have to pay camp a day fee. My work phone tomorrow is 360-642-2031. I heard they didn't catch our salmon yet...but hopefully tomorrow....that would be a bummer...we might have to improvise on filet mignon or something..no actually, our chief cookperson suggested Thai food and that is always good. I bought imitation maple syrup (to supplement the real) and icky mayonaise, which I will never fathom why anyone would eat it, but who knows. People are brining teas and I never drink the ones at work so I think they owe me a few by now... If you have extra vegetables in y our garden for soup and dinner and salad, bring them along. We have enough to stave off scurvey and lots of lentils, rice, etc., but one of the things that fell to my budget ax was fruit juice and more vegs, but I am hoping for squash from my boss's garden...that would be good with our salmon (hopefully) dinner. Anyway, it will be great fun and there will be enough food..and we have chocolate chips and the granola I made last night was great hot out of the oven so hopefully it will stay good. mg |

We'll have lots of coffee, although not decaf at this point. If you have vegetables or fruits in your garden, we could use a few for soup and/or Sat. dinner, although we have salad stuff. Flowers!!!! (Don't worry..we have lots of food and the salmon has been caught). If you could b.c. me if you could bring any of these items that would be great. mg |

Re: coffee pot..I regret to say I am so behind schedule that I haven't checked things out like that although I inow they are there. If bad came to worse, I could race to work and steal one of our regular old pots like you see everywhere. I really doubt tjhey have anything fancy. I didn't get fancy coffee.but I got what is fancy for Costco..running a bit short of money...and I did not get any tea yet...I had a 20 minute run to Costco and just threw stuff in the cart..and my friend who brought me forgot his card so I had to buy a card...but I csan use it next year too so that will be good. The weather is indescribable. I have lived here all my life and seen many beautiful October days, but the last few have been so amazing. It is supposed to be a bit foggy in the mornings, but highs will be in the 60s, which should be nice.. I am really looking forward to this..old friends, new friends. I think we need to gather especially with all the stuff going on..lots of personal transitions as well.... Now if my boss only remembers thbe lenttils... Does anyone make huckleberry pie? I have been picking them every lunchtime. And if anyone has good taping equipment that they can secure from bears etc. there should be some great music to tape. mg mg |

Do you know what kind of coffee maker they have at the camp, if any (percolator, drip)? I can bring the one I have here in Seattle, if there is not a drip maker there, but if they already have one, that's better. I just got a restaurant-type large airpot at a thrift store for about $2, and I will bring that when I come on Saturday. That way, a new pot can be brewing while the first pot stays hot. Genie |

Got most of the food now....nothing fancy.....but got some salmon being caught for us right now and I have personally picked blueberries and huckleberries. Bread was so expensive..I think we'll make some cornbread or something....or I'll see if anyone passes by a bakery outlet. We have a lot of pancake mix for breakfast, and we'll make muffins if we have tins... My work number is 360-642-2031 if anyone needs me. Go to bay about 1.5 miles. Turn left. Go less than a mile I think till you see a clump of trees..there will be a sign that says Camp Morehead..I'll have balloons and flashlights to spotlight it. Mail to Sunnycamp c/o Mary Garvey 1408 201st #5 Ocean Park WA 98640 We have a really great selection of people coming, and people maybe coming..it will be a small but powerful group...I figure 16-20 with more coming in for a day or so and some locals dropping in. Weather is holding up. I actually hope we get the needed rain for the cranberry harvest (they need to fill up the ponds so they can flood the fields) and that then perfect sunlight will illuminate our camp. Oh, and if you want, stop by the Cranberry Museum and the WSU extension farm (I work in the office there). It is 2907 Pioneer Road, just about a mile from the main highway. mg |
