Subject: RE: BS: Thieving S**s don't like shanties From: Skipper Jack Date: 15 Nov 02 - 02:19 PM I'm sorry about the car break -in, Gareth. You were quite a way inland for the vandals to know what a shanty was? There might have been the chance that having played the "Baggies" Tape they would have returned it!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Thieving S**s don't like shanties From: EBarnacle1 Date: 15 Nov 02 - 01:43 PM Most of the times I have been B & E'd they have taken things of value to no one but me that were almost irreplaceable, such as a handmade set of sailmaking tools there were given to me as a gift, or a float coat, well worn, etc. It is a real pisser not having enough stowage space anywhere. Last time, they bent the window frame before breaking the glass and took a broken pair on TASCO binoculars that were in a closed drawer. I hate those effing freelance capitalists! |

Subject: RE: BS: Thieving S**s don't like shanties From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 Nov 02 - 04:50 AM At one time I was living in a flat on one side of Wandsworth Common - it was a bit posh - there was a Lord of the realm living next door but one! In the roads behind there was a council housing estate. When I parked on the posh bit, my car was broken into (smashed window) twice. On neither occasion was there anything worth taking - a bag of dirty shirts and a very old briefcase with nothing of value in it. Each time they chucked the stuff in the hedge, but I still had to replace the window. I then started parking round the corner on the estate and never had any more trouble. Obviously the thieves obeyed the dictum about not s**tting on their own doorsteps. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thieving S**s don't like shanties From: Abuwood Date: 15 Nov 02 - 04:22 AM Obviously the theives in Hull have more taste, they took all my shanty CD's including Johnny Collins. Perhaps it is good for you to be parted from Max Boyce (!!!) for a while even if you are Welsh.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Thieving S**s don't like shanties From: Teribus Date: 15 Nov 02 - 04:15 AM Hi Gareth, I sympathise with you, my daughter's car has been vandalised twice now. The perpetrators got away with a Radio/CD that they would probably get £25 for, leaving behind a bill for over £700 worth of damage. My initial reaction was to considered making flat cushions for the car with 100's of fish hooks sewn into it, to be put in place while the car was left unattended - then when I calmed down, I did what we all had to do - pay for the repairs and get on with life. My daughter, who is away at university, is now a lot more careful where she parks - on this she did get some really good advice on this from the Police. Hi michaelr and KimC - Thanks for the reminder of a very funny film (Johnny Dangerously ?). If memory serves me correctly, didn't the guy (spoof mafiosa boss) end up getting deported. Think I remember the swirling news paper headline showing the guy's picture with the headline: "DEPORTED TO SWEDEN FOR MURDERING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE" then the by-line: "Says he doesn't come from there" |

Subject: RE: BS: Thieving S**s don't like shanties From: JudeL Date: 14 Nov 02 - 08:36 PM My sympathies gareth vandals got my car last year and broke the window. They didn't take anything, comp insurance charged me £50 to replace the window without affecting my NCB but they damaged the window frame as they were trying to jemmy it and that would have cost me more in lost NCB than it cost to fix |

Subject: RE: BS: Thieving S**s don't like shanties From: Gareth Date: 14 Nov 02 - 07:58 PM Weeeeell - Apart from Plod, PC 2344 Lewis - commiserating and taking a statement and quote " They obviusly didn't like your choice of Music" - I have alrady been b*****d about by the Insurance Co. A sad mistake, remember what I do for a living. What was advertised as a service within 1 hour to replace the glass seems to be 24 hours at best. It is now sitting outside me gaff, with black plastic bags over the window and the HT lead removed to imobilise it. Thank God I took the stereo out of me old car before I took it in to the knackers (breakers) yard. This gives me a spare. I am just seriously pissed off. Not only is this going to cost me a day off work to sort the matter out, the bah lambs also nicked a carrier bag containing my sherpa discs for various Political Nesletters to be printed and distributed over the next 2 months. Hence I am up at this hour remaking the discs. Bugger humanitatian considerations. Let the bastards dance at Tyburn - on a slow rope. Gareth |

Subject: RE: BS: Thieving S**s don't like shanties From: Leadfingers Date: 14 Nov 02 - 07:22 PM so you have a car that doesnt look worth breaking into to either joy ride or nick stuff so they breakin any way and just set fire to it to annoy the poor old pongos and their Green Godesses. Hope there wasnt too much damage and the insurance company doesent play silly buggers over the claim. |
