No, I was wrong - my Scouser remembers The Stove Pipe Spasm Band from his early Sydney, OZ daze - middle 60's - and so far he's just sung me snatches like "... I'll be there in the morning if I will ..." -

Any other 'catters remember this crowd??

Cheers! R-J

There was a very lenghty discussion on playing the stove pipe, different bands and musicians on the Yahoo Jugband Group. I have provided a blue clicky below (I'm bumdiddybum in that group). It extends to cover bazookas and gutters too!

Yahoo Jugband Group Stove Pipe Discussion

Note, that you may have to join the Yahoo Group to see the messages.

My Scouser Better Half talks of the Stove Pipe Spasm Band - I THINK from his early Liverpool, UK days/daze (early 60's) not his early Oz days, Melbourne:Sydney (middle 60's)... Anyway, I'll ask him later and get back to you.

Cheers! R-J

Way back in about 1960 I borrowed an LP from our local record library [Remember them?], of Stove Pipe Bands. I seem to remember that it was a sort of Jug Band type sound, but it's been so long I forgot. Anybody know anything about them. Among the other discs borrowed were, Folk Festival at Newport 19??, with Bob Gibson and Bob Camp, and a new sensation called Joan Baez, mind blowing to a youthfull Scots lad, like what I was then.
Giok
