I thought Snuffy was the correct choice for obvious reasons (for instance, had I typed 'Wolfgang' as I usually do, I might be second by a minute). The previous prize is just a not very convincing excuse, but I'll accept it this time (grin) and I'll PM you, Greg. All the best and thanks for the quiz. Have you noticed, once we did really start it took us (four) eleven minutes!

Wolfgang

Well I've done a few calculations. Wolfgang was the first to arthroscopy by a hair (both he and snuffy were timed at 8.40AM but Wolfgang's came up first). Snuffy had more correct answers than Wolfgang, but given that Snuffy has already had a prize from me in a previous quiz, I'll declare Wolfgang the winner of this one. So if you PM me with your addresss Wolfgang, a prize will head your way.
Answers were:
1 Admiral benbow
2 Ring a ring a roses
3 Times they are a-changing
4 Hog-Eye man
5 Rolling home (to dear old England)
6 Oranges and Leemons
7 Spenser the Rover
8 Captain Kidd
9 Orange Blossom Special
10 Plane Wreck at Los Gatos
11 Ye jacobites by name

Tnanks, Snuffy, for your good wishes. The knee is fine but I'm immobilised for a few days.

Well done evryone that was quick. I believe the full Woody Guthrie title for Deportees is Plane Wreck at Los Gatos. I will just have to do a little calculation for prizewinner(s) there seems to be a bit of dead-heating.

Well done, all- missed this.

I'll go along with Snuffy's list, plus Wolfgang's Rolling home to dear old England (Kevin Barrry's tune) and BJ's Plane wreck (or equivalent): from Deportees

Do I get the prize? :0)

All answers are song or tune titles. The initial letters of the answers will spell out the reason I am setting a quiz instead of doing garden clearing on a glorious sunny day.
There will be a prize, but I wont tell you whether it's for the most correct answers or for the first solution of the theme word. This is to encourage you to post answers as you get them, rather than hoarding them to get the theme word first.

(1) slightly plebeian sailor, died 300 years ago, and commemorated in the location of a literary Black Spot Tipping.
(2) Nothing to do with the Black Death or the Great Plague,or so Malcolm Douglas keeps telling us.
(3) Tempora mutantur, according to Zimmerman
(4) Porcine ocular male is probably obscene, though exactly how wasn't clear to Stan H.
(5) Probably not the last song on Kevin Barry's lips, though the tune would have been appropriate.
(6) Citric Celebration of Capital Campanology
(7) Nomadic sort of chap, had a change of heart in Yorkshire and went home for Bonfire Night
(8) Free booting sailor, shared a tune with Q1 and also died 300 years ago, though rather more ignominiously.
(9) Citric Celebrtation of Florida Fiddling
(10) How did Jesus and Maria die?
(11) Burns had a bit of a disagreement with followers of Bonnie Prince
