Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Dec 02 - 08:18 AM Isthat Deputy Prime Minister or Duty Prime Minister? I hope it's the latter. I love the image of some rota of Buggins Turns. |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: GUEST Date: 25 Dec 02 - 06:03 AM The Observer (UK sunday newspaper) ran ads for Directors of regional offices of Resilience. Comes under the aegis of The Office of The Deuty Prime Minister. |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: Gervase Date: 17 Dec 02 - 03:25 AM For all the Bacon and Gammon, it's kosher. Having known a couple of those mentioned on the site, I'm afraid it's all for real - in line with the new line on emergency planning. It's the up-dated, cyber-equivalent of holding a copy of 'Protect and Survive' over your head while whistling in the dark. |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Dec 02 - 08:25 PM That last line there - "Name Server:BACON.NISS.AC.UKName Server:GAMMON.NISS.AC.UK" sounds suspicious, considering that "gammon" is rather archaic slang for telling fibs. That and the hopelessly pverblown title of the site "UK Resilience", which sounds ridiculous and phony, and very "un-British". Mind you the very fact that it sounds ridiculous and overblown fits in pretty well with the style of the present clique of politicos who have hi-jacked the soi-disant "Labour" government. Quite a handy checklist for anyone who was planning to carry out a terrorist campaign. |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: Nemesis Date: 15 Dec 02 - 08:49 PM I found out about it thru the local alternative newspaper "The Porkbolter" Click here http://www.eco-action.org/porkbolter/index.html They sometimes get a little shrill but mainly they do a great job of unearthing disturbing matters!! |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: Penny S. Date: 15 Dec 02 - 09:27 AM I find it scary. Either way. The Google ref which is not yesterday is the 22nd October - none of the links there work. But if spoof, then the gov. sites have been compromised, haven't they? Penny |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: John Routledge Date: 15 Dec 02 - 09:19 AM Spoof I think but loads of hard work to produce the joke. Clue is in youngGov which has three sections for 11-18 years old Visit youngGov Running away Becoming an astronaut Can't decide if I find it funny :0) |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: Penny S. Date: 15 Dec 02 - 09:14 AM And so did the references on the first three pages of a Google search - almost all dated 14th December, like most of the site pages. Is that likely? Penny |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: Penny S. Date: 15 Dec 02 - 09:05 AM There's a link from the Defra Useful links page, but this is referred back to the Cabinet Office - where there is no link. There is no link from the DFES - education, though the supposed video is aimed at primary children, and schools are often designated receiving stations in cases of flood etc.. There is duplication, for instance in flooding, with other sites, and the duplications are not the same in content. One duplication - UK Foresight - has the same sort of feel of naming. The disclaimer at the bottom is very much shorter than the usual government disclaimer. There is a subtle difference in style I can't put my finger on, but the site certainly uses a lot of material, such as the rolling banner, that is found on bona fide official sites. There has certainly been a lot of work put into it - if it's an outside job, it's someone with a lot of intelligence and resources of time and equipment. If it's internal, it's worrying - just the sort of patronising attitude in the name - we're going to be resilient, aren't we, that New Labour specialises in. Where did you hear about it Hille? Most of it went up in the last week. Penny |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: GUEST Date: 14 Dec 02 - 11:24 AM I've looked at few better known (to me) official gov websites eg Cabinet Office & UKonline.gov.uk - they all link to UK rsilience ! Looks real to me. |

Subject: RE: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: katlaughing Date: 13 Dec 02 - 11:07 AM Those are some wickedly good posters! Thanks! The UK site looks so real, plus the address to contact them by seems so legitimate: nccwebmaster@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk. Can anyone who lives there verify that it seems to be a real government email address? Very interesting site. kat |

Subject: BS: reassuringly (sur)real (UK) + USA(?) From: Nemesis Date: 13 Dec 02 - 10:42 AM GEORGE Orwell has come back from the grave and set up a satirical website called "UK Resilience" www.ukresilience.info Click here which claims to be an official government emergency website for dealing with dastardly threats to the Big Brother state ranging from the firefighters to terrorists (aren't they the same thing these days?). It even has a logo of a fluttering Union Jack to reinforce the Churchillian title. It can't be for real. Can it? Please? Meanwhile, internet users can cross that wafer thin line to genuine satire with some superb US pseudo-propaganda posters at http://homepage.mac.com/leperous/PhotoAlbum1.html Click here |
