I've not put anything up for auction yet, but if you click on the auction link at the top of the page there's a link on the auction page that says "Add item to auction". Should be self explanatory from there. If not, PM someone for help. I know WYSIWYG has helped some folks before. And be sure to specify that the guitar is a flamenco guitar in your item description.

Bill--the guitar described sounds similar to mine except my top is not laminated and it does have a pickguard. It also looks and sounds better than "charming in a way." Wouldn't you love to know what a phrase like means when applied to an instrument? If they are asking $325 mine is probably worth getting appraised.

Bruce, I had thought about doing just that, but now my sister has found him a Fender youth guitar that she is giving him for Xmas. And it really just has never seemed right to modify the guitar like that, though I don't know why I feel that way.

Now--how does the auction work?

There's no photo but I infer the following:

laminated top--this is a polite way of saying "cheap student instrument". But at $325 it's not all that cheap. Since they don't really describe it,   I'd guess it's not mint like yours. So there's an asking price for you to try. The trick is to advertise it where there are aspiring flamenco players. Maybe eBay.

BWL may be right, and for sure the tuning pegs are a deterrent to those who want a guitar, not a flamenco guitar.

On the bright side, "early 70's made in Japan" is not necessarily a derogatory description. Some of the best Yamahas fit that. (the ones from before Martin sued them).   

I'd say try to find a flamenco person for it.

If your son "can't handle the pegs" I assume they are simple violin-style friction pegs. If so, take it to a repairman and ask him about the feasbility and cost of replacing them with banjo-style planetary pegs. It shouldn't cost too much and you can probably get a free ballpark appraisal value out of him while he's looking at it. Whether or not you decide to do the peg replacement, you'll at least have an idea of what the guitar's worth.

Send email to Elderly Music, and they might very well look it up for ya in the book they have...

It'll give ya a ball-park figure at least... but to get a REAL, accurate appraisal, you're gonna have to put it in the hands of an expert... someone who knows a thing or 4 about such things...

Kinda like I'd love to do with my Harmony tenor guitar... that's either a relatively recent 'knock off' or copy, or it's an ancient ancient piece of guitar...

I don't really care, myself... I just love it... but I am curious...

I know this sounds old fashoned, but check with the reference librarian at your local library and see if you can get a title of a book that gives guitar values. I know there is one as Elderly INstruments sells one. If you library doesn't have the book in it's collection, you can request it through their Inter Library Loan.

Assuming the guitar is worth something, how would I go about selling it through the Mudcat auction and donating the proceeds? I couldn't figure that out from the Auction or the Help Support the Mudcat pages.

I have a Crown FG 250 flemenco guitar that is 25-30 years old. I'm too cheap to take it to be appraised unless it is worth the appraisal fee, which it may not be. Apparently Crown Musical Instruments (Japanese)is out of business--I could find nothing through Google. I don't know much about brands, but I don't remember Crown as being particularly memorable. Anyone know where I might get some information? The guitar is in near perfect condition and has pegs instead of tuning keys. I bought it nearly new in the early 70's. I haven't been able to play in years because of hand problems and my young son can't handle the tuning pegs so I want to either sell it, or if it's not worth much, give it to some one who wants a nice little guitar with a seet, mellow sound, but can't afford one. Any help will be appreciated.
