The singer IS the late Bob Roberts who was skipper of the sailing barge "Cambria". The instrument is a melodeon.

There have been several threads about Bob recently including one from me looking for the words of his poem "The Oily Rigs".

"Cambria" is currently at Dolphin Yard, Sittingbourne, where she is dry-docked inside a lighter. There is trust who are trying to restore her, but she needs a lot of work.

Seen it twice since last posting... still can't remember the product, but have been told that the penguins are Weddels. There we go.

Did anyone check if the song was in the English book of Penguin Folk Songs?

Talking of Bob Roberts I used to play in a band called 'The Harvesters' with his daughter Jill a million years ago. I know she went to work in South Africa but havn't heard of her since. If anyone knows where she is it would be nice to touch base with her again(she might even read this!)

That's the one Liz. I can remember the song and the penguins - but not what the ad is about!

Shan't trust those bloody sailors again... look what happened last time!

I am sure accomapied is a good word but perhaps not quite as good as accompanied. You lot can correct the rest of the spulling and grandma...

In case anyone in the UK wondered who the man was singing "Magie May" that is accomapied by either concertina or melodeon and contains the line "The first time my barge came home from sea" it is, according to a good and well informed friend of mine who has the album, Bob Roberts.

Trouble is, the old mind not being what it used to be, I can't recall what the ad is for...

He also sang "Windy Weather" on an advert for John West or some such where the old fisherman has his concertina cut in two but carries on playing harmonica!

More info is Here

Cheers
