While I agree with you about the quality of hockey that we saw at this tournament, I must say that I think the NHL has done and continues to do a tremendous job of enforcing the rules and returning the game to what it was. All of these new "obstruction" rules are simply new names for infractions that were routinely called when I was growing up playing in the sixties and seventies. They have also pretty much eliminated goon teams like the Big Bad Bruins and the Broad Street Bullies of the seventies who won games strictly by brawn and intimidation. It's not perfect yet, but it's no longer WWF on ice the way it used to be.

Cudos to the Russians who played a tremendous game and narrowly defeated a talented and determined Canadian team, and yes my hat is off to the Americans for showing the class to acknowledge the hospitality that they received in Halifax.

I admire all of those young hockey players. They played with skill, poise and grace. They gave us the most interesting and entertaining hockey we have seen in awile. Thanks to all of them.
   Now, why dosen't the NHL get it..dump the goons, enforce the rules and play the game the way it was meant to be played..like these young players did.

Nah. They like us. Who wouldn't ? Except for the whiney sportscasters, who I can still hear from the TV in the living room down the hall. They are interviewing Canuck after Canuck, asking why we didn't win. The simple fact of the matter is, it was a tight game and both teams were in it until the final whistle. I think the deciding factor in the game was that the Russians scored more gols that we did... sportscasters me arse !

Well, that was one hell of a World Junior Hockey Championship GAME. The Russians were great - 3 to 2. They won fair and square. The Canucks were great. They came silver fair and square. But, I was truly moved when the Yanks came out after the bronze metal game waving Canadian flags. Thanks Yanks, once again.
