Subject: RE: TECH: Help Req. Digital camera From: open mike Date: 08 Jan 03 - 07:00 PM did you figure out how to save fotos from your camera to your computer? I do not have a digi-cam, but have had great luck with this company to transfer images to digital format--they were previously know as seattle film works and now go by the name of www.fotoworks.com. They can print photos from negatives, from digital images, from slides , and have a web page where you can post your photos for others to see, too. Laurel |

Subject: RE: TECH: Help Req. Digital camera From: Bill D Date: 08 Jan 03 - 05:32 PM you need to give more information about your camera, computer and ISP. All camera brand are slightly different in exactly how they communicate with the computer. Have you read the manual about it?....IF you have a standard ISP, you may have some free web space, and if so, there are programs called 'FTP' to send the image to that place. In order to advise easily, those who know the answers need to have some idea 'exactly' what you know and do not know. |

Subject: RE: Help Req. Didgital camera From: JohnInKansas Date: 08 Jan 03 - 02:13 PM Most of the cameras use one or the other of a few "memory card" formats, and most come with a cable that will connect the camera - usually to a USB port - on the computer. Once the camera is "connected," recent versions of Windows will see it as a "new hard drive." You can should be able to just copy the files from the camera to the computer using Win Explorer. The other option is to get a "card reader" (about $25 US) that stays connected to the computer. You pull the card out of the camera, stick it into the reader, and copy the files. The image files should be one or the other of the .jpg flavors, which you can open in your PhotoShop. The caveats are: The camera will "name" the images in 1-2-3 order, and if you "clear" the camera to start over, it re-uses the same names. If you copy "day 2" pictures to the same place where "day 1" pictures are stored, you'll wipe out the older ones - unless you have "renamed" them first. The software that comes with most cameras includes an "auto-rename" function that you should look for. NEVER save a .jpg back with the original name after you've had it open in any program. Each save "re-compresses" the image and discards image information. A couple of saves will turn the original into "mud." Other than the few pics you might post in the personals, you shouldn't put pictures (or any graphics) on the 'cat. Email them to those you know, or get your own website to post them - as advised above. If you want to submit a few for posting in the personals at the cat, I believe there are instructions in the FAQ about where to email them. John |
