Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A New Fangled Tango From: balladeer Date: 23 Feb 03 - 11:32 AM Instead of "with a barely minimum amount of movement", I'm hearing, "with a minimum amount of manual movement" in my head, from Lena Live at the Waldorf-Astoria, released on vinyl sometime in the fifies. I owned the LP when it was new and it stayed in my imagination for most of my life. I went looking for the CD last year but it seemed it hadn't been transferred. Has it by now? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A New Fangled Tango From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Feb 03 - 11:29 PM I listened to a few sound samples and pieced together this much of the lyrics. I'm rather sure it's not complete. A NEW FANGLED TANGO Everybody's mambo crazy, cha-cha happy, but I'm lazy. I don't dig that frantic terpsichore. When I trip the light fantastic, I don't want to be gymnastic. That's not what a dancing floor is for. What I got in mind is a big improvement, With a barely minimum amount of movement. Let the other couples push and shove. What I got in mind I think you're going to love. I've got a new fangled tango, and there's nothing to it. You just sort of stand there and just sort of do it. You stand close together. There's no wasted motion. ... Oh, you start off with one step and cling to each other, And you know how one step can lead to another. Oh, there's nothing wrong with a waltz or fandango, But, ooh, what can come from a new fangled tango! All I'm saying, it's a good thing there's music's playing.... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A New Fangled Tango From: Snuffy Date: 04 Feb 03 - 08:33 AM I don't think Alma could smoulder like Lena Horne, Steve, far too bubbly. I've always associated it with Lena - IIRC it was a live recording. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A New Fangled Tango From: Steve Parkes Date: 03 Feb 03 - 10:12 AM I think Alma Cogan recorded it in the UK. Don't know if it's one I've got or not. Steve |
