Hopefully we'll catch up with you at one of the events, I'm looking forward to hearing the nyckelharpa and have loved the hurdy gurdy since I was a lad (many years ago!) and although Eileen had one made for me a few years ago I haven't had much time to "play" with it.

On tour with The Ian Gartside Band - "Back to Roots Tour" over 2003/2004 our "last fling" - till the next one :-) with a three out of four 60th birthday party mid tour! - hey I'm the youngest!!!!

Hi Pete, long time no see.

Toni and I are doing a gig here and there, the nyckelharpa is a bit of an add-on though. The idea of the busking is to get us out and about with the two instruments and test reaction to them - the sound is a bit unique (as is the combination in the UK at least).

I'm coming on quite fast because of my policy of lugging it around sessions and inflicting it on the unsuspecting. That way, I also end up playing tunes I'm familiar with on the fiddle and forget I 'can't' play on the harpa. Try it with that fiddle of yours.

I'm definitely at Holmfirth festival (with the Good Egg Band) but the harpa might make a brief appearance at one of the sessions. Also probably Beverley in June. Possibly Whitby's last weekend.

Hi John, yes it was me - Toni turned up fairly late in the afternoon with the gurdy. I had only had the nyckelharpa for three days at that point and knew one full tune. This year, I've got quite a lot of Scandinavian harpa tunes and have been dragging it round local sessions and a few festivals too so I can get to grips with most things I already know on the fiddle, and at a fair lick too.

Hoping the Beverley thing doesn't co-incide with my hols this year because I really want to have another go.

The market traders in Beverley (Yorkshire)organised a couple of busking days last year with prize money of £1000 in all. Some 'catters took part; the events may run again this year.

I was in Bridlington East Riding UK The other day and they are having a busking day in summer with a first prize of £1000 plus other cash sums i'm sure if you find the Bridlington web site info will be on there

Cant help with 'Busking'festivals but you should get a blow at ANY of
the Folk Festivals throughout the year.Wether you will be 'allowed'to
collect money from the public is up to the festival and local laws.
Also the Festival Site Areas tend to be for ticket holders only.

We are currently looking for UK busking opportunities for a nyckelharpa and hurdy gurdy duo (and 2 fiddles when we get fed up with that). Is there any such thing as a list of towns holding busking festivals in 2003 so we know we are welcome without getting moved on?

If anyone can think of any other opportunities for playing, please let me know.
