Subject: ADD: Stolen Love From: Stewie Date: 24 Feb 03 - 10:03 PM Steve, Here is how I hear it. It is a bit of an epic for this genre: STOLEN LOVE (G.Brooks/A.P. Thompson) I was sitting by my fireside with my heart so full of pain Listening to the pitter patter of the cold December rain Thinking of the one that loves me, oh how true her little heart And how cruel was the message when I told her we must part 'We must part' was the cruel message Though my heart was deeply pained In a land beyond all trouble There we'll meet and love again Then I thought to end this message for her love was good and true 'If your parents doesn't [sic] like me, I can think no more of you' Then I burned the hard last message, I said, 'I will be true Not the scruples of your parents can alone part me and you' Then I planned a way to see her So to tell her of my love I longed to be beside her Like a lonesome little dove Then my plan it was successful and from home she ran away Happy with me, oh so trusting, on that cold December day Sitting by me, sweetly smiling, with those eyes that are so blue When she said, 'My dear, be honest, will your love continue true?' 'I'll love you while I'm living I'll love you till I die And I know that I will love you In that home beyond the sky' Then I put my arms around her, kissed away the happy tear And she said, 'I'm glad I'm with you, I now have nothing to fear For I know that you will love me, keep me from all harm and care Put the ring upon my finger, seal it with a kiss right here' Then I kissed her lips so smiling Said, 'I'll love you till I die And I'll love you all the better In that home beyond the sky Source: transcription from Red Clay Ramblers 'Stolen Love' Flying Fish LP FF009. From the singing of the Red Fox Chasers of NC. The Red Fox Chasers recording has been reissued on 'Red Clay Fox Chasers' County LP 510, but has yet to make it to CD. In his sleeve note to County 510, Richard Nevins notes that the words were by Guy Brooks and the music by A.P. Thompson, both members of the band. --Stewie. |
