Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Here was the press report in the end

More than 70 artistes in Worthing town centre on Saturday spelt out their message to the public, raising their awareness, and making their protest at forthcoming government legislation .
They included Sompting Village Morris, Mythago Morris, Ditching Morris, Sussex Tippeteers - among them the President of the Morris Federation - new local ensemble Celebration Samba, plus the Sunny Worthing Arts Group, Vanguard Theatre Productions, local charities, musicians, dancers and actors, Richard Amey of local charity-support band Outcry, classical guitarist Richard Durrant, and MP Peter Bottomley.

A colourful and vibrant procession of Morris sides and drummers danced down south Chapel Road to arrive in South Street Square and, after entertaining shoppers for an hour with dance performances and Samba drumming, the procession wended its way through Montague Arcade, Montague Street and back via South Street.

Nearly 300 signatures were gathered for the petition calling on the Government to amend the License Bill. Among other things, the Bill will require organisers of any event, where newly regulated licensable activities such as singing, dancing and music take place, to purchase a license in advance from a local authority and gain Police approval beforehand.

The protesters say this legislation will threaten the future of live musicmaking and other entertainment.

The new License Bill will remove the exemption for singing and dancing on public land and supporting the campaigners, Worthing's singing and flute-playing MP Peter Bottomley called upon Worthing Borough Council to declare South Street Square an "Arcadia" on Saturdays, meaning a place where community Folk and Arts events could freely take place.

Thanks peeps!

I AM PROUD!! Wow! The sight of all the MOrrissers coming down the road .. I was so gob-smacked I didn't get the camera out!

And the promotion staff for the Radio station were decamping to our side **g** - one gave me a whole load of contacts for PEL alert in the carnival world!

The other thing that filtered to the top of my subconscious is that "they" are still keen to talk to me about publicity for their events!!   Hmmmm? (Despite them "working" with the bitter enemy (them not us) who tried to take the credit for all our festival events last year (re. THread : 2003 .. sob it's already started!)

Oh, and that the new (not yet on air) town radio station I noticed (yesterday) have lifted wholesale listings and events (without acknowledgement) from my club newsletter!!

Time to get my act together!!
HUgs, love and thanks to my Mudcat friends .. no, hang on ... just FRIENDS!
Hille

Give me The Royal Philharmonic singing John Barleycorn any day.
With cannon & cymbals etc. Real music, that is, mate.

Some days just swing wildly like pendulums (and somedays it's not even hormones:

This morning was fantastic and exhilarating ... our local day of action(?) about the License Bill - hanging about with the first arrivals the very new-in-town (only 5 weeks in) Samba band .. we suddenly heard this rhythmic deep drumming and looked around nervously wondering and then hove into sight .. right down the main street stopping the traffic came Sompting Village Morris, Mythago, Ditchling Morris, Sussex Tippeteers ... the President (I think) of the Morris Federation in this wonderful colourful fanastic procession ...

Then the Samba band played briliantly! .. more Morris dancing from all the sides and musicians and drummers joining in ... some street theatre "clobbering" performers with the License bill.. and then we marched around the town stopping more traffic .. then Peter Bottomley (our MP here in Worthing) sang a song dedicated to me "Hille of Marlene" !!!! We gathered 250 signatures .. pissed off the regional radio station trying to flog a car promotion .. dished out 200 flyers explaining the License Bill and had the best fun in a spontaneous erupting fun way the town has seen for decades .. so much so Peter Bottomley is calling on the Council to designate the town centre square "Arcadia" a free-from-regulations (on Saturdays) space for folk community arts to take place.

Then I went out this evening to a function where I was basically put in my place as an "amateur" by the very people I went along to support ie., erstwhile professionals .. my club as amateur .. all right in it's context (ie., the downstairs room of a pub) .. fulfilled a certain criteria and need (folk .. lowest common denominator stuff) .. and one whom's ambitions should perhaps stay where it is .... (in a hole in the wall as it where)

Subjective .. matter of opinion .. but I've ended the day thoroughly exhausted and crushed and I need a hug, people!
