Ummm... but except for Keys, they're all the same! Anyway, that IS Cainc or Conset Dafydd ap Gwilym. It is in Blodau'r Grug and is often the second tune played in the Dawns Gwyl Ifan (St John's Feast Dance); the first being a tune called Hunting the Hare (Hela'r Sgwarnog). And if you tried to dance Dawns Gwyl Ifan at JC's speed, you'd need to do it in MUCH lower gravity or figure out how to stay suspended in air ... A twmpath is a folk dance, a stomp. It's also a grassy knoll where the locals did do meet for ... well, dancing (among other things) on Midsummer's Eve. Gwyl Ifan is now the big day for dance teams around Wales to hold folkdances. Great day out!

sorry...I got bounced last night...it is the 4th one in the J.C...it is a great song....what is a twmpath band? I just love Welsh music but don't hear much of it..

The 5 found by Sorcha are also known as 'Cainc' (tune) Dafydd ap Gwilym ... and are generally played considerably faster than JC has them. It's pretty much in the 'standard repetoire' for Welsh twmpath bands. If mary (who seems to have gone quiet?) found it in a book, it might be Blodau'r Grug, the first vol. of dance tunes which most dance bands use.

There are 5 listings at JC's Tunefinder Look like all 5 are the same tune.

"Gwilym" being "William" in Welsh of course.

I think Helen has probably found the tune you mean, mary. Did you want any info on it? I have Mick Tems' (Calennig) e-mail somewhere at home and could PM it to you if there's something specific you wanted to ask him. As it happens, I don't have a copy of that particular album; perhaps the liner notes would give further info...

The spelling of Gwilym is more likely than your spelling with two y's, I think.

Does anyone play this in the world except me? I have never heard it but I got it out of a book many years ago. It is Welsh. Not sure of the spelling. I did a Google search and didn't find anything. It is a pretty tune..reminds me of an O'Carolan tune. mg
