What do you mean Sorcha? How do I do that? The tune revolves around mid tempo A - G for the first half of each verse then F#m - Bm - E - A x 3 then A - G - E - D last line. THe chorus A-G-A-D then A-G-A

What with the Grand flattening of Iraq for the "good of the Iraqis people" proceeding at pace, George Bush about to spend 75 Billion!! on further flattening and the voice of Michael Moorer ringing in my ears, I thought I'd give you all a look at a song I wrote a while back. Hopefully Saddam will clear out soon and open a hoilday home for retired despots in the Congo.

Enlist (In an Army Such as This)
(Words and music Michael Sands ©)

I'm going to join the army I told my mother true
And she looked at me and cried, "What's got into you?
You'll surely catch a bullet in some foreign field
And they'll cart you home in a wooden box and distraught we will be."
Mum you misunderstand me and my plans I will explain
This army has no guns or tanks and seeks no domain
It doesn't fight behind a bomb or secret service building
And has no funds from governments that make soldiers out of children

Chorus: Enlist, enlist in an army such as this
Enlist, enlist, enlist

"But son there is no other kind of army that I know
Listen to your mother now I beg you not to go
Your niece is only three years old you've a baby on the way
Your darling wife's heart will break on your parting day."
But Mum the battle is right here I'm going nowhere fast
There's worse than bombs and bullets being fired in old Belfast
My weapons are my singing voice, my hands and my guitar
And my friends will stand with me against the want and waste of war
Chorus: -

"But who are your generals what battles what battles have you won?
You'll change nothing singing oh have some sense son."
Mum if you'll stop awhile I'll give several names
Of quiet rebels who achieved life changing aims
Gandhi from India, Martin Luther King
Inspired Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and many more to sing
Victor Hara, Woody Guthrie, Dick Gaughan, Tommy Sands
Show what love can do when you lift it in your hands
Chorus:-

Gonna dream of climbing mountains and reaching for the stars
And search for hope in the depths of who and what we are
I'll meet your eye and give a smile it's the least I can do
And we might brighten each other's day and to ourselves be true
I think this army's growing but there's barriers in the way
Greed and hate and prejudice have their own games to play
So take my hand my friend and together we can try
To change these dangerous games and make a difference you and I
Chorus:-
