I should think cigarettes, pot, booze, chocolate, condoms, tampons and antibiotics will be real valuable some day soon, if things continue as they are...maybe gasoline, too, and wool sweaters.

Oh, yeah, (wiping away the tears), go out and buy warbonds fer sure, eh? They only want $75 billion to fight the war. I mean, you kin trust these guys, eh? Have they ever lied to you before?

I note that the US dollar is weakening daily on the Canadian exchange. Could be cos the USA's in hock and has exported its consumer product industry to the Far East, ruined its own businesses through hostile takeovers, and devastated its own working class, and busted its unions, and is in the process of repealling its Bill of Rights...

Hmmmm. Try investing in Eurodollars, folks. Or buy gold...and food. Gold and food are real.

My local church still has 'War Bonds' and the associated income (3¼%p.a.) on the accounts. It appears that the British government has never offered to re-purchase these at 'parity'.
Just a word of warning against buying 'bonds' with no maturity date!

Even though I spent the first half of my working life in social service earning vitually subsistance, at age 35, when my son was born, I figured I ought to try to figure a way to make enough money to sent the knucklehead to college so I tried capitalism, or free eneterprise or, ahhhh, heck if I know any more fancy terms... But, in spite of myself, I carved out a niche and at least have enough saved to get the boy thru a state college.

I also made one purdy smart real estate investment that should keep me out of the poor house in my old age.

So if that's acpitalism, than I'm guilty. But I don't feel guilty because I've worked 6 days a week, with out vacations for pushing 2 decades now but, hey, the only boss I have is me! Ahhhhhh, and the P-Vine....

p.s. And you'd be shocked (but not awed) to find that I do buy bonds. They're safe even though the return is low. But like I said, they're safe. Ahhhhh, so far?

I won't buy war bonds, but if someone wants to issue "Peace Bonds" I'll think about it. Of course, they would have to be issued by a reputable non-governmental organization like the Red Cross. There's no way I would trust the U.S. government to spend the money the way I would want to see it spent.

Funny things about buying bonds these days is that by buying them you're helping to bail out an administration that is out of control in terms of its fiscal policy.

Most folks who get in debt try to cut spending and earn more money. These guys want to increase spending and cut back on the earning side.

What am I missing here.

Yeah, I've bought my last bond for awile. When these bozos get real and start paying their bills, maybe I'll go back to buying their bonds...

Well - If it means cutting down my mothers Iron Fence, which survived the scrap drive of WWII, rather than scraping ang painting it - a two day job, YES !!!

Interestingly Rationing 1939 to 1948 (?) seeme to build a healthier Brittain.

Sweets (Candys) came of the ration in 1952 or 3 - Some years ago we found my old sweet ration coopens in an old suitcase - Now donated to the Pontypridd Town Museam.

What a pity that these days with sweets and chocolate off the ration the Doctor forbids them to this Diabetic.
