I seem to remember a play or a story about the Unknown Soldier from the Great War - the one in London or Paris. The key image was the idea that in fact the Unknown Soldier was a young man who had been shot by his own side's firing squad for desertion.

The Unkown Soldiers
Lorcan Otway, tune Old Horse (Warrior)

Soldier Soldier were you brave
we found you in this shallow grave
I don't know which side you fought on
your home Iraq or Halliburton

What were your dreams when you were small
did you dream of soccer or football
Were you your high school beauty queen
could you see this death in your darkest dream

We'll gather you up fly you away
forensic labs may tell some day
who you are but not why you died
no matter how or on either side

I wish we could a promise make
to never again these young lives take
Wasted dreams and wasted pain
youth dying for Halliburton's gain.
