Another example of the best-forgotten doggerel that fiddlers use so that they can recall the many similar tunes in their repertoire.

Seriously, there are people who think mostly in words, and there are people who think mostly in pictures. To people who think in pictures, this is a most unpleasant image. Sink it.

I have a friend who was bitten by a rattlesnake at the age of four. She cannot abide even a picture of a snake, doesn't go in her yard in the summer. She (and her friends and family) would fail completely to appreciate the sadistic humor in this song.

Must be a cousin to "Feed your babies Onions"

... "so you can find them in the garden after dark."

"Lookee, lookee, lookee
Rattlesnake bit the baby
Nothin' to be done nohow
Baby is a big girl now
"

Omigosh! "Rattlesnake Bit the Baby" was our most requested song when we played at Silver Dollar City, near Branson, MO, many years ago! Our mandolin player was always coming up with these obscure songs to play as instrumentals. One day he played that song. The lyrics came to us instantly:
Rattlesnake bit the baby!
Rattlesnake bit the baby!
Rattlesnake bit the baby!
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!

We had to play 4 and 1/2 hours per day, so we had a long list of songs taped to the bass. When RBtB came up, we loudly announced that it was "Happy Time!" We had a great time getting our audiences to sing along with us.

I'm sure these words are not what you want, but I had to respond because of how much fun we had playing this song. If you want to go to my website at www.bigfoot.com/~mrgreer and email me, I might be able to send you a copy of a live performance (CD) we did in the late 70's with RBtB on it.

Thanks for the memories!

The only song I know of that name is as an alternate title to Lowe Stokes' fiddle tune, Take Me Back to Georgia (best available on Document DOCD-8045) , you sing to the B part:
Rattlesnake bit the baby
Rattlesnake bit the baby
Rattlesnake bit the baby
Run and get the doctor!

if you're looking for a song with a little more. . . plot line. . . can't help you, sory
