Thanks, guys... but who's Red Green? (is it a US thing?). The faded pic on the cover is Phil Thomas, dean of BC collectors and the album's a sort of festschrift for him. We hope to be doing a paper about his collecting and publishing for the fall conference of the Canadian Society for Traditional Music, to be held in Athabasca, AB in November this year.

When my mate Rich Williams has got a moment, I'nm sure he'll give me a hand in loading a sample to the website.

A much-needed collection. There's a shocking lack of traditional Canadian folksong on CD. There's some material from Quebec (largely instrumental) and some from the Maritimes, but Canada's a big place with a rich history of folklore.

Why is Red Green on the cover of The Young Man From Canada??

LOL

Seriously... looks like a neat collection...   Some I recognise... most I don't...

Got any samples?

:-)

I do hope this is kosher.

Rika and I have just released two CD's of mostly traditional Canadian song: "Come to Me in Canada" and "The Young Man from Canada: BC Songs from the PJ Thomas Collection." Those interested can read all about them at our new website: http://www3.telus.net/jonbartlett-rikaruebsaat/index.html
