That's "MAUDE-AIMIE" (pronounced 'mode'). Ya know yer right Spaw, Rex was a little less manic rhan some. I really believed that he really believed, and somehow he didn't make me as angry as the rest....PLUS....he played a NATIONAL steel guitar years before it was hip to do so.

The strangest (by a long shot) of the Brothers were Austin and Lee Allen. Very popular and amazingly untalented. They're the ones who sued their record company for (inadvertantly) thinking they were Black, and advertising them as such. It mean't that they could no longer get live gigs, cuz' of the segregation of the venues.

Sounds like a great record. For more current "brother" recordings like these, Clarence and Roland White (the Kentucky Colonels) could not be beat. And right now, the guys that really do the brother duet beautifully (although they are not brothers) are Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen.

Ya' know Rick, I really wish you wouldn't mention ol' Rex and his Cathedral of Tomorrow..........Much as I love this state, we seemto have also specialized in bad Presidents, eight in all, like Harding, Grant, Hayes, Taft, Garfield, both Harrisons, and McKinley, as well as TV ministries with Parsley, Swad, LeRoy Jenkins, and of course Humbard. When I was about 10 and the Cathedral of Tomorrow was pretty new, we actually stopped there once while in Akron. Makes me shudder to think about it..........

You bet there is. One of the best sibling recordings I have is from the Rex Humbard Family (yup, the faith-healin' tv evangelist) singing "I'LL FLY AWAY". It's so tight you literally don't know who's singing which part. The Louvin's were amazingly tight, but for sheer excitement, the best I ever heard was Alton and Rabon Delmore sing "I Got the Kansas City Blues".....may have been the first song they recorded and they were on fire!

Just ran across a great record by the British company Living Era, called "O Brothers" (capitalizing on guess what) containing songs sung by brothers, sisters, and occasionally whole families. Includes the Blue Sky Boys ("TURN YOUR RADIO ON" and others), the Delmores, Stanley Brothers, Monroe Brothers, Crosby Brothers, Carter Family and many more. Stops well before the Everlys. There is something to that close harmony vibe between siblings.
