You are going to have to give usus a a bit more of of clue, your request could fit a hundred or so Irish tunes. You need to narrow it down a little, though no doubt some Mudcatter will know the tune you mean.

Hi, I'm Italian but I've just spent 3 weeks in Ireland..once I heard a man in a Pub singing a beautiful song... I can only remember a few words from the lyrics: "Farewell....., Goodbye...., I wish that you were here...but that's the way life goes". Thanks !!! Bye :)
