Sounds neat, so maybe next year. I know Aengus Finnan slightly, although I'm not so sure he would remember me at this point.

Like artbrooks said, LH, near San Antonio. About 40 minutes north in the hill country.

I know what you mean about competitions. But it would be cool to get you down there so JtS and I could sit around campfires and jam with you and the other great people there. Our last night there, there were three Canadians at the campfire where we were hanging out, including JtS. The others were Aengus Finnan and Trevor Mills.

It was pretty magical. JtS wrote a lament about Stan Rogers and performed it on our last afternoon there. He got the only standing ovation during that event, and people were wiping tears from their eyes when he finished. I was tearing up pretty badly, and my nose was running, too.

Ah-hah...that Bill Shatner. Okay. Where is this Kerrville? In Texas? There I was thinking it was in Kentucky for some reason.

Thanks for the tip, Carol, but I probably won't do it. I don't like competitions very much at all.

Ok, here's the picture. Bill was feeling a little two-dimensional the day we took it. Poor feller. It might have been because of the nail stuck through his forhead. That didn't seem to effect his singing to any noticable degree, though...

Me, Mr. Shatner, and one of the other friendly greeters at the gate

Bee-dubya-ell, that Florida festival sounds great, but if it runs concurrently with Kerrville, I don't think we'll be going to that one any year soon. No accordions huh? That's really sad.

There were a handful of squeezers at Kerrville this year. I only found two of them though, and it took me a long time to do it in the midst of a couple thousand people with tents and campers scattered all over the place.

We took a little side trip to the Gulf (of Mexico) coast in Mississippi on the way home. There's a fantastic little restaurant on the beach in the area just to the west of Gulfport. Ohhhh man... the owner and/or chef at that place is a genius with food. We sat on a deck overlooking the beautiful white sand beaches, looking out to sea and watching the sea birds, and ate some of the best vegetarian food I've ever had in a restaurant. JtS didn't eat vegetarian though. He had catfish, but he said it was the best catfish he ever ate. It had crabmeat stuffing. If I could remember the name of the restaurant, I would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone passing through the area.

LH, you ought to consider entering some of your songs in the Kerrville festival's New Folk competition. I bet you'd have a good chance of winning with at least one of them.

Makes me doubly glad that I was at the Florida Folk Festival instead.

Carol, you and Jack need to come there next year. It's a lot closer (only 200 miles) and it's pretty much a given that you won't have to put up with Shatner being there. And there's an acute shortage of accordian players.

Bruce

This is so incredibly cool that I could just jump!

Why was I not at Kerrville???

We're back in Lake Charles LA, on our way home from the Kerrville Folk Festival. One more day on the road tommorrow, and then home.

We're visiting with a guitar addict friend from another forum. He's got 7 or 8 guitars, and a lot of cool guitar-related other toys. We convoyed to Kerrville with three fine guitarist and songwriter friends from Columbus, one of whom is an accomplished luthier named Riley Yeilding.

Bill S. was stationed at the gate of the festival site to welcome new arrivals. He looked stunning in his Kerrville Folk Festival t-shirt. JtS got a picture of me with him and I'll post it after we get home and get it available to post a link to.

Ronny Cox (actor who portrayed the guitar playing character in the movie "Deliverance") was there too, and JtS wrote a parody of a song Ronny wrote at a song-writing workshop. JtS was sitting right next to him when he sang the song, so Ronny could have punched his lights out, but he never did. We were happy about that.

More tomorrow or the next day.
