Having seen Chris Smither, Mooh, so am I! I also envy Jim Moray because he's just 21 years old and already well on his way to a fine musical career. Well, that's life. I am just gonna have to die and then take another shot at it, I suppose...

One of the problems about being a musician is that we're often booked to play somewhere other than where it's happening! I really want to see the Wailing Jennies too, but alas, I was playing in Bayfield last night and will be playing the Kincardine Scottish Festival this afternoon.

Can I be at Mariposa in spirit? Is that possible? Would I know it? LH, I'm envious!

Peace, Mooh.

Best acts I saw today were:

The Wailing Jennies (3 fine female singer-songwriters from Winnipeg)

Sheryl Wheeler (superb singing & guitar playing & the whole bit)

Jim Moray (innovative young British folkie playing old tunes in a new way)

Chris Smither (Such a good performer that nothing I could possibly say about him would be enough! Utterly marvelous.)

And now...I am getting some sleep. Good night...

Stanfest is also on this weekend in Canso.
Lightfoot verses Rogers?

Go go go see Jim Moray. Our most exciting export! I don't know how much of the hi-tech clobber he's managed to transport safely, but you'll be in for a treat!

The first evening was quite good. Saw the Wailing Jennies (3 young women from Winnipeg), and they were great. Also saw Gord Downie (of the Tragically Hip), whose material I was almost completely unfamiliar with, and he did some pretty interesting stuff. It's hardly folk, but it is good. He and his talented band also did a cover of the Dylan song "If You Gotta Go, Go Now", in suitably raucous fashion.

Now don't fall all over yourselves posting to this Mariposa thread, people! We don't want to consume too much bandwidth discussing music when we could go on and on about William Shatner and stuff like that...do we? :-)

In beautiful Orillia, Ontario, Canada...home of Gordon Lightfoot and the WSSBA. How sweet it is! Look up the details at their website.
