Subject: New Klezmer CD from Hawaii From: GUEST,Mark Cohen (in Kona) Date: 05 Jul 03 - 08:49 PM Hawaii's own klezmer music ensemble, Kona's Traveling Jewish Wedding Band, has just released their long-awaited CD, "Shaloha Oy". I'd recommend this one even if my friends weren't in the band! With violins, contra-bass balalaika, vocals, keyboard, guitar, clarinet, French horn and congas, the band plays for parties, weddings, anniversaries, Bar & Bat Mitzvahs, concerts and other celebrations all around the islands, with a repertoire of Israeli, Russian, Yiddish, klezmer, freilach and other music of the Yiddish theater, from horas to waltzes and even Jewish-Hawaiian songs! In the words of the Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart: "This music is better than matzoh ball soup!" Check it out! Aloha, Mark |
