I prefer Gargoyle's because it quickly cuts to the meat.

Yuck! I like mine better. It certainly is a tune that lends itself to parodies, though.

It is in the Rugby Thread

Born Dead

Tune = Born Free

Born dead, your baby was born dead

Three fingers and no head

Born dead to live in a jar

Stay dead, don't come back to haunt me;

You really don't want me.

Born dead to live in a jar.

One of my personal favorites.

Sincerely,

Gargoyle

I always liked Ronnie Barker's snippet from "Porridge"

Born Free
Till somebody nicked me . . . .

As I indicated, the tune has been lifted from "Born Free" (the lion extravaganza), so you can easily scan and get the feel for the lyrics. The song is a comment on consumerism. I started it off with a vision of me and my friends in our feckless youth in Scarborough, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto...known to its inhabitants at the time as "Scarberia", because it was way out there at the edge of the city. It is now becoming a deteriorating Third World international slum, while it was then the refuge of the white-bread, white middle class who have long since fled north to places like Barrie and Orillia.

Without further ado, I give you the lyrics to...

Brain Dead                                              Key of C

Brain dead,
We stood in the riptide,
Took a walk on the wild side,
Had a burger and fries.

And we were brain dead,
To our elbows in chip dip,
We got caught in a time slip,
Brain dead,
Under Scarborough skies.

Brain dead,
On the streets of the city,
Buying things from Japan,
We had blood on our hands,
But did anyone care?

No, cos when you're brain dead
Almost nothing astounds you.
Simple beauty confounds you,
Brain dead,
You need someone's advice.

She was brain dead,
She had something to tell me,
But her manner repelled me,
I said,
"You need someone's advice."

Yes, she was brain dead
With her plastic burrito
From the Frito Bandito,
Brain dead,
Needing someone's advice.

Brain dead,
With her copy of Cosmo.
See those well-lacquered girls
With their curls,
And their swirls,
And their jealous advice.

Cos when you're brain dead
You don't lie down, you lay down.
When they whistle the play down,
Brain dead,
Throw your beer on the ice.

And when you're brain dead
Make a pot of Kraft Dinner.
Tell yourself you're a winner,
Brain dead,
You need someone's advice.

Brain dead,
With your head on the train tracks,
Get a Big Mac attack
From the snack in the sack,
While the Amazon dies.

Yes, we're all brain dead,
Spending money like sailors.
We're just wanderer whalers,
Brain dead,
We need someone's advice.

What's that sound I hear?
Someone's stuck in the chimney...
(Must be Santa Claus.)
I didn't get what I asked for...
Someone's going to pay!
We were promised a saviour...
Jesus, where are you?
This wasn't what I expected...
I guess I'll go home now.

"Born Free"... except for the last little bit at
the end, from "What's that sound I hear?" on.
