Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 (01 Oct 03) From: Skipjack K8 Date: 13 Aug 04 - 12:05 PM That's enough about Cara, let's talk about me! Yes, Peter, splendid fun was had last night, and will hopefully be repeated tonight with the hopeful addition of a salvo of previously enjoyed lingerie, I am a sailor boy, and you did hear yourself as an original and best Foolish Virgin. Perhaps we will even meet again one day! I look forward to that, you old rock and roller! |

Just as an aside, I discovered that I like to sail last week. Don't you do a bit of that malarkey? I spent the whole week falling out of a Laser dinghy. Blinking marvellous fun! Pete. |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 (01 Oct 03) From: Skipjack K8 Date: 13 Aug 04 - 06:17 AM I have just taken a call from the redoubtable Mrs Ryan, who was seeking technical advice re tuning an outboard motor. It isn't too much of a quantum leap to suspect that the iron topsail is being put into the key of Barton to feature centrally in the eagerly awaited new Cara CD. |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 (01 Oct 03) From: GUEST,freda Date: 13 Aug 04 - 04:15 AM I have both Cara's CDs - I love them. The musicianship is excellent, the tunes melodic and haunting, and the singer's voice has a softness and gentleness that I love. I have been playing them every day since receiving them - they are very beautiful, and the three musicians extremly talented. freda |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: Oaklet Date: 31 Jan 04 - 06:55 AM jOhn, I'm afraid you'll have to discuss this one with the one they call Skipjack who is mightily obsessed with prostate-health at the moment. He is in Ireland as we speak, but called last night from a pub where there was apparently, an unlicensed talk-around in full spate. |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: GUEST,What's the old boot about, then? - Wrong qu Date: 10 Nov 03 - 07:31 AM I spotted the above some time ago but forgot to reply. The question should be - what are the old boot, fuschia, whitewashed wall and old chair about, then? I saw Cara in Brigg yesterday (9.11)They had a man taking photos of Mike Ryan, again. I saw the one called Skipjack there and he told me things. Also, that fabulous imprasario was there (branches throughout Barrow) I felt sorry for the lovely singer in Cara as the fight in the corner reached its' height just as he was at his most sensitive. Oakley was very jolly and the guitarist man was nice. |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: Oaklet Date: 03 Oct 03 - 01:26 PM Has that man Skipjack got nothing better to do than to go on this thing? The other Oakley has just propositioned my wife. A weekend in a motel and the offer of a burger fest being too much for the poor woman to endure, she has taken to the wood shed. |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: Oaklet Date: 03 Oct 03 - 09:28 AM Many thanks to the one called Skipjack and his copyist tendencies. I have met him in the past and he told me things. It is of concern that the profound and dainty works of Cara have become associated with cavortings of an unthinkable type. What next - dancing? Very worried about one of the other Oakleys who, I believe, now works during the day. |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: KJ Date: 03 Oct 03 - 09:12 AM Everyone rush out & buy in your hordes. It is a lovely CD & very good for making love to 'cos it's got slow bits & fast bits. Marks out of ten for keeping to the rhythm. Good for the ladies!!! |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 03 Oct 03 - 08:47 AM Thank you all the Oakleys for the timely start to this thread. I have already had press copies of my tribute CD out with the pluggers, who have canvassed every folk DJ in the BBC network, and market research shows that network listening figures have now topped a baker's dozen. Now it is available to the Mudcat community an unabitious price 9Euros12). 'The Snot on the Flags' is also a deeply personal and contemplative prediction, performed sensitively by the Barrow Aerophone and Bassoon Fanciers (branches throughout Barrow), with a solid disco beat and a wicked 'do-do-do' sound sample from the seminal chant 'Ring My Bell', which is faithful to the Celtic tradition 9although we don't upset anyone from Rangers, like) Oh, yeah, was that Elrond in the corner of the Brock last Wednesday? |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: Oaklet Date: 03 Oct 03 - 04:19 AM Limited availability of the Notes in the Stones: I note in the previous messages from the other one he didn't admit to sending 900 CDs back to Ireland to get them shrink wrapped, thus causing at least a week long delay in supply to the demanding hordes. This despite the advice of the one with jet black curly hair. |
|
Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: Oaklet Date: 03 Oct 03 - 04:08 AM It is with regret that I read the other Oakley's purple prose in respect of the Notes in the Stones CD. This may seem a little pre post-Freudian, however; it is the role of the ego to regulate the urges of the id. The other Oakley is, sadly, beyond my reach - depite nocturnal chastisement. On one thing we do agree the new CD is an emotionally charged and honest offering. Oakley's rash violin playing is supported beautifully by Rawlings on guitar with that man who appears to have learnt to complain on a number of instruments (including voice)blathering at intervals. |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: Oaklet Date: 01 Oct 03 - 07:42 PM Work in progress Noreen. We shouldn't be too embarassed about sharing the development of the site - someone might have good ideas and suggestions. The website designer has a sense of humour. We asked for links and he put a lynx on it. Standard in-joke in web design circles. From the early nineties I recall. |

Subject: RE: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: ET Date: 01 Oct 03 - 03:54 PM Does the Bar Code give access to bars? If it is as good as I am told by those that ought to know better, it probably might be worth buying? What is your selling strategy, your marketing ploy, your advertising campaign? At what point on your expedential line do you invest more to return more? Maybe going to swansong of Coach and Horses session next Tuesday, if only to find out new venue and if so if someone who could be trusted possessed one and you knew they would hand over £12 ish I might hand over that sort of sum approximately. By the way Hull City Festival next year is combining with the Mouth of the Humber Festival in June to make one huge great whimper of a festival. I thought John Prescott was the mouth of the Humber but seemingly it is a poetry festival! Don't we live in exciting times |

Subject: Cara's new CD arrives today9 From: Oaklet Date: 01 Oct 03 - 11:44 AM The music world is agog with indifference with news that today sees the release of Cara's new album "The Notes in the Stones". Inspired by a huge gas bill, the official blurb from Cara's Management Company – the obscure, negligent and secretive Gamblemusic (branches throughout Barrow) drivels on: "Cara is a group of musicians from North Lincolnshire UK, specializing in a spirited and contemplative blend of traditional and original Celtic music. Cara has performed together over the last two years, building a growing reputation for a sound that is distinctive, sensitive and evocative. Cara's original material, though profoundly personal, is accessible. Its traditional material is respectful of both the origin and purpose of the music without being overly reverential. Cara embraces the tradition's natural tendency to evolve musically and the clarity of the instrumental voices and restrained arrangements combine with powerful, thought-provoking lyrics to produce the distinctive "Cara" experience. The band has three members, John Rawlings on guitar, Oakley on violin and mandolin and Mike Ryan on guitar, whistles, mandolin, uilleann pipes and vocals. Each brings something very different to the music Cara performs, coming from a mixture of Irish traditional, rock, jazz and classical music backgrounds. Cara's new release - The Notes in the Stones - is the culmination of a year of writing, arranging and performing. Thirteen tracks; in all, just under 45 minutes of instrumental music and songs containing one set of traditional tunes and twelve original compositions written by Mike Ryan and Oakley. The Notes in the Stones is a faithful reproduction of Cara's sound in live performance. The sequence of tracks suggests a progression of musical ideas - a narrative that is an important and engaging element of Cara, in performance. Cara's is a profoundly personal and beautiful take on ancient themes." Unsurprisingly, this album is not available in the shops, but can be obtained by e - mail to david.oakley7@btopenworld.com or, by asking the normally shy and retiring small hairy farmer if you see him in the flesh. The cost is an abitious £12.00 plus £1 p + p. Shipping costs to Twillingsgate have yet to be agreed. Why not visit cara's website www.carasmusic.com - I'll tell you why, because it isn't bloody finished yet that's why. But it will be soon and you can look at pictures of the band and become all aroused. |
