Wow. Thank you for writing, CB. I was curious, is all, and you've answered my curiosity. The CD has a PC award. I am pleased that it is being enjoyed and appreciated, and being a CMW finalist is icing on the cake.

Thanks to all for your comments. They mean more to me than a whole herd of spiders. I'll let you know what happens on the 12th.

Throughout the 1990s I reviewed children's music for Parents Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Parenting and other publications here in the States. I never heard of the spider stickers nor did I ever see one. The Parents Choice Award sticker carried some cachet.
In any event, congratulations on your accomplishment. I suspect you don't need no steenking spider for validation.

Hum...... I've not heard of the spider web thing. Of course here in northern CO. we don't always hear of these things. Congratulations on your CD. Sorry I'm not much help. bet

When I lived on the Big Island, I had gecko droppings on my CDs. Here in Honolulu the critters aren't as overwhelming--except for the human kind, of course.

Aloha,
Mark

First off, congratulations, BW! I had read this, but didn't have an answer for you, so I hadn't posted, yet.:-) Sorry...HOWEVER, my sister, bet, the elementary school music teacher might, so I'll send her an email and ask her to stop by this thread.

From the looks of the website, it sounds like a neat great idea. My kids would have loved the spider stickers; they went to Poison Spider School in Wyoming where the mascot was a black widow spider!! It was fun at Halloween, esp.

I'll be back, thanks for asking,

kat

You're misunderstanding the question, JJ. I guess I didn't ask it very well. I'm wondering if it is a common enough symbol down there (in the USA) to be readily identifiable. Would the average parent/teacher see the spider and know right away that it signifies a Children's Music Web Award, or would they have to read the words to know that? In other words, would the spider itself mean something? Perhaps it would mean something more in one region than another.

It's just something that I'm wondering, that's all. Just curious. It wouldn't alter the fact one way or that other that I'm very honoured that we're in the running. It's simply a question of living in a different country and wondering about this, and I couldn't think of any place better to get a thoughtful answer than here.

(I'll ask Kat....good idea.)

The meaning of the Spider Sticker is that you have won the award. See here. Or am I misunderstanding your question?

On October 12, the winners of the 2003 Children's Music Web awards will be announced. My CD - 'Up and Over the Moon! - is a finalist in the Best Recording for Toddlers category. (We had to pick a category....the music is actually appropriate for children of all ages).

The winners get spider stickers to put on their CDs. Living as I do up here in Canada, we don't see too many CDs with spider stickers on them. It is not a familiar award symbol here. So I'm wondering if any my American Mudcat parents could tell me the meaning or influence of a spider sticker on a children's CD south of the border.

One store manager told me that if a parent doesn't know a children's music performer, they are often influenced to buy the CD if it bears a sticker. Mine already have a sticker. I don't think there is room for another one. But those spiders are awfully cute.
