It looks like Mally can send you some (postage at cost, they don't weigh much)

Thanks Dave, it's really good to know that ball end mandolin strings are available. Now if I can just locate some on this continent (I live in Southern Ontario).

I buy Redwing ball end mandolin strings from The Music Room, Cleckheaton, custom guages at no extra cost, good mail order service.

This is a solid body instrument in the shape of a telecaster guitar scaled down to mandolin size. It should have the range of a mandolin and mandola combined. Unfortunately I've never been able to get a C string that matches the tone of the other four. The luthier has not been able to help.

It might seem a silly question but what the hell is a Mandocaster?

And cant the Luthier who built it give any reccomended string sizes?

I have a really nice five string Mandocaster that I had custom made for me fifteen years ago. I've always had problems with strings though. For one thing, I've never been able to find a source for mandolin sets with ball ends, so I have had to go the singles route. For this instrument I like light gauge so it's .010, .014, .024 and .036 for the E,A,D and G. I have yet to stumble on a suitable guage for the low C string. Lots of trial and error, but I have never got it to match the tone of the other four. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
