It really is well worth it getting the internet via the cable and not through the phone line. Might even work out cheaper.

A friend of mine has NTL, phone and cable TV. I tried to set up an e-mail service for her, and failed. Then I tried to access my own account on her computer, and failed, I then connected my lap top to her phone line, again failure. In desperation I tried an AOL free disc, which succeeded [Yes I don't like them either] The question is this, if you are not using NTL as a service provider for your e-mail,do you need a dial out prefix number to access your account?

Giok

Are you talking about NTL and your computer, or do you have the NTL cable TV system that gives you email and internet via your TV screen? I have the latter, which gives access to some but not all internet facilities. It's not too bad with Mudcat, but you couldnt access long threads: though this has now been sorted for me by the clever little elves at Mudcat headquarters who enable me to break threads down into the bite-sized chunks that NTL can cope with.

I had a bit of trouble last week, when I couldn't get through to anything, because they were doing some maintenance work. As well as their helpline, they have a Service Status line which just guves a run down of various "service outrages" because of repairs to the system and so forth.

But if you can get through here, but not to other sites I'd be surprised if it's NTL to blame - normally it seems to be all or nothing.

I'd advise giving them a ring and asking advice.

If it's not NTL, it might be worth trying using a different browser, if you've got one on your PC, and seeing if the problem crops up there too. If it doesn't, that would suggest you should try reinstalling your prefered browser.

Are any English NTL users experiencing difficulties with NTL as a server?? This is the only website I can access. Not that that is a bad thing!
