They are a quartet now and on the second CD, since John (?surname) joined them around 4 years ago: he plays guitar and bouzouki and sings. He is also a member of another Fife group called Kinrick (1st CD on the way, or so he told us at a local gig in September)
Sangsters were only a trio on the first CD/tape "Sangsters Begin".

Mary, I have checked through some relevant threads, and it would appear that the song you are looking for is actually called "Sailor Home from the Sea" from a poem by Dorothy Hewett, with melody by Martyn Wyndham-Read. The Sangsters haven't recorded this either, although they did record another Wyndham-Read adaptation on their first CD ("Silence and Tears" by Lord Byron).

I further note that you said on the other thread that you heard the song sung by 2 men and 2 women, but I have to point out that there is only one male voice in the Sangsters, who are a trio !!

Best of luck with getting your Sangsters CD anyway, and I hope you manage to locate the group you heard on the radio.

I know it wasn't the white cockade...I must be confused somehow...anyway, I will officially place my order here and at the official site for the Sharp and Sweet CD if you can get it for me through Mudcat, Dick. Otherwise I shall go on the open market. I might have to send a check though or money order as I think my VISA is exploded. mg

Mary, I spoke this morning with Fiona Forbes (one of the two female singers with the Sangsters), and she assures me that the Sangsters have not recorded Cock of the North.

Either you are confusing it with "The White Cockade" on the "Begin" CD (which is unlikely) or perhaps you heard a different group singing, who sound similar to the Sangsters ?

Thanks...but I still only see 2 c.d.'s...it is definitely Sangsters and not Border Sangsters and I definitely heard them on the radio singing Cock of the Morning/North...but maybe it was from a compilation or something...I really wanted the cd that had that on it..I am going to read some more of the old threads for hints...if I can't find it I will get one or the other cd...

Why don't a whole bunch of us buy them? They are that good. mg

I am mixed up. I looked under the Begin track list and the Short and Sweet or whatever it was and didn't see the one with Cock of the Morning/North on it...I will look more tonight...I swear someone found it in another thread but now I can't find what they said mg

Mary-
Can you give me a bit more information? Greentrax has one or two CDs by a group called the Sangsters; Living Tradition has a fine CD called Border Sangsters, and there may be more.

Hi..I just came into a small fortune of $15..just enough to buy the Sangsters CD I am wanting..if it were in the US..Dick, is it possible to get through Mudcat and how much? I want the one with Cock of the North/Morning on it..although every song I have heard them do is just great. If this is not possible, does anyone know how to get it in US or should I go through someone in UK? Prettiest songs and voices I have heard in quite some time. mg
