yes...EAC is highly recommended, but maybe 1/3 slower than some programs because of the internal checking to be sure it is 'exact'

Here's another freeware (postcard-ware, actually) CD Ripper program you might want to check out. I haven't tried it myself yet. It purports to be the most error-free ripper.

No, so far there are no viruses or worms that can infect MP3s, WAVs, GIFs, JPG or MPG files.

And here is a link to MP3 Workshop. It's freeware and does it all: ripping (to either WAV or MP3), converting (either way) in several bitrate choices. Easy to use too.

AudioGrabber IS a very nice program that has just gone freeware...but to say "...best by far..." is a 'mite' strong.

Lokk at it... http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/ and at the others and decide. (Me? I have both..*grin*...sometimes it is just a matter of ease of operation.)

I do believe that media player only converts to WMA file format.

The best program by far for ripping mp3s from a cd is AudioGrabber.
if you want this to run properly you will have to get it from a warez irc channel or from Kazaa. From kazaa it comes with the LAME encoder, but if you get it another way you may have to download LAME too.

This allows you to copy at bitrates from 32 - 320 kbps.

with audiograbber you can also select your audio settings such as dual stereo, mono, etc etc. great program

I've checked with my son who assures me that you can do it with Windows Media Player which is free and on most PCs already.

MusicMatch also won't dink around making a wav file first, that you then have to convert...

MusicMatch is one of the easiest ones I've used...

What format is the orifinal sound on?

Musicmatch (free download on internet) will rip from CD straight to MP3 without the expense of buying a mac.

just went to buy a Mac - tried the Drive through but everytime the assistant tried to pass it to me the Windows closed down - so I picked up an Apple instead - I supose it'll be beta for me anyhow.... I would have only had too many chips with it!

If you have Easy CD Creator, that will do the ripping for you into a wav file format. If you need an MP3, there are several encoders out there for free like Xing or Blade that will convert the wav file to an MP3.

I need to create an MP3 or wav file from a CD. There are no copyright problems - the tracks I want to copy are by my grandmother and my best mate.

The music is to be attached as the background to a slide show of digital photos I took of a Wren's day in Kerry last year.

Can anyone tell me how to do it.
