Subject: RE: Country Music Pioneers honored From: RangerSteve Date: 01 Apr 04 - 03:39 PM Yeah, that was a mistake, should have been DeFord Bailey (I must have confused him with DeForest Kelley). Just remembered the other guy on the list - Fiddlin' John Carson, also not connected with Nashville. Another mistake I made above, the Opry is past it's 50th birthday, it's the 70th that's coming up where the above will be inducted. |

Subject: RE: Country Music Pioneers honored From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 01 Apr 04 - 11:00 AM De Forest ??? you must mean DeFord Bailey someone that never got a fair shake while he was with The Opry. What a pity that he wasn't given fair recognition while he was living and having to get by as a shoe shiner on the Nashville streets. Does this mean that the Hall of Fame is giving old timey music more recognition at last. Must say I was impressed with all the technology when I visited the place a couple of years back but the real roots of the music was given only a small amount of recognition compared to all the glamour and glitz crap. Not only that very soon after my visit I learned that long serving and very knowledgeable librarians and curators in the reord library that contains all the wonderful old 78@s had been dismissed. I tend to think of it after that as the Country Music Hall of Shame. |

Subject: RE: Country Music Pioneers honored From: GUEST,Dale Date: 01 Apr 04 - 10:43 AM Well, I saw your thread title, and I was prepared to whine and gripe about the Nashville bias, but was pleasantly surprised to see that it's just the opposite. Long overdue, but completely deserving. |

Subject: Country Music Pioneers honored From: RangerSteve Date: 01 Apr 04 - 09:59 AM The Country Music Association in Nashville has just announced that it will induct some real old-timers into the Hall of Fame. Gid Tanner, Ernest Stoneman, Bradley Kincaid, DeForest Bailey, Charlie Poole, a couple others that I can't remember. Tanner and Poole had no connection to Nashville, and Stoneman didn't when he first started to record. It's nice to see that the HoF is recognizing the original greats, and that the music existed outside of Nashville. They'll be inducted sometime around when the Opry celebrates its 50th birthday. |
