Yes, shame not more of Jack Dupree (used to see him a lot at the 100 Club wheh he lived this side of the pond) but I thought there was more music than in last week's episode, and fewer rentachat talking heads,more from the actual musicians. What about Pinetop Perkins and Jay McShann duetting? Combined ages of 180 something! Great stuff, even if not all strictly blues. I'd rather see boogie-woogie/stride than blues-rock,funk, soul, but then I'm an old mouldy fig.

Champion Jack Dupree was a real blues singer and pianist but got only a mention. During his later years he lived in Halifax, West Yorkshire, about half a mile from where I now live.
He was very popular in Halifax and always had a houseful of people
wanting to hear him or learn from him.
The BBC [ I think ] did a documentry about him. If the programme had been better researched it could have included some good blues and not just Clints favourite pianists.

The tiny bit of Albert Ammons was great But let's face it,blues piano was pretty thin on the ground. There must be a lot of footage of blues pianists central to the music that they could have used. And if you're short of film clips, you could always play Jimmy Yancey and Leroy Carr records and have some different film images. Art Tatum Ray Charles, Nat King Cole Dave Brubeck etc etc, are all musicians I can enjoy, and all blues influenced, but they are not the core of piano blues. The the whole thing was a bit wide of the mark for me.

I watched Clint's programme last night and loved the archive film and most of the live performances. I did, however, find the jazz content a little heavy. I mean, Dave Brubeck plays the Blues ? Otis Spann doing "T'aint Nobody's Business was a joy.
