Subject: Review: Wellington and Auckand sessions From: Shanghaiceltic Date: 13 May 04 - 06:26 PM Just got back from a trip to NZ where I was able to get to some sessions. In Wellington I went to the open mike session held at Molly Malone's in Courtney Place every Monday evening. A large group of people on both the nights I went along. I was made to feel very welcome and there were a large variety of instruments and players. This is run by David Barnes who also runs the Wellington Morris Dancers. In Auckland I went to the Bunker folk club which is a short ferry ride across to Devonport and a short walk up to Mt Victoria. The Bunker runs on most Monday nights and the venue is a former WWII command post. The envening on which I went was a club session and there were some very good perfomers, including two ladies who played some beautifull harp music. From what I saw and heard there is a very active folk circuit in NZ so if you are going to NZ check out www.kiwifolk.org.nz |
