They got that set from Nigel Gatherer's book Songs and Ballads of Dundee (Edinburgh: John Donald, 1985; the second edition, 2000, is still available), where it was printed "From the Poet's Box and the singing of Jim Reid". The Poet's Box being a prolific broadside publisher in Glasgow in the second half of the 19th century.

It seems that the final verse was added by Robert Burns for The Scots Musical Museum. The tune is fairly old, having first appeared in print in the 17th century.

THE SCOTS CALLAN O' BONNIE DUNDEE

O whaur gat ye that hauver meal bannock
O silly blind body o dinna ye see
I gat it frae a brisk sodger laddie
Atween Saint Johnstone and Bonnie Dundee
O gin I saw the laddie that gied me't
Aft has he doudl'd me on his knee
May heaven protect my bonnie Scots laddie
And send him safe hame tae his baby and me

My heart has nae room when I think on my laddie
His dear rosy haffets bring tears tae ma ee
But o he's awa' and I dinna ken whaur he's
Awa frae his lassie and Bonnie Dundee
O licht be the breeze aroond him saft blawin'
And o'er him sweet simmer still blink bonnilie
And the rich dews o' plenty aroond him wide fa'in
Prevent a' his tears for his baby and me

My blessings upon that sweet wee lippie
My blessings upon that bonnie ee-brie
Thy smiles are sae like my blythe sodger laddie
Thou's aye the dearer and dearer tae me
But I'll big a bower on yon green bank sae bonnie
That's lav'd by the waters o' Tay wimplin' clear
And cleed thee in tartans my wee smilin' Johnnie
And mak thee a man like thy daddy dear
