We could see the 'writing on the wall': change of ownership/management, wanted to charge for room hire, bottled water only available [at a price!].

Rumour has it that success of the hotel was less important than the land provided by the large car park that could be made available for housing development!

Good luck Pete in the new venue.

Thanks for directions.

Thus Britain's sons may long remember,
How to cut out the left-hand bender
That caused the ruin of many a fender
Upon the Heights of Alma!

The June 29th club night has had to relocate to the new function room at The Alma, Cottonstones, at no notice because the usual venue the Royal Hotel has suddenly closed.

The guests on 29th are Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher.

Don't know yet whether this is a permanent change. I know several mudcatters attend regularly - anybody know of any other suitable venues in the area?

To get to the Alma:

From Halifax
Turn right at the Triangle Inn in Triangle before you get to Ripponden. Up the hill and basically, stick with that road round twists and turns, through Mill Bank until you get to a 'T' junction. The Alma is there on your right.

From M62 (Manchester direction) go straight through Ripponden, then:

Easy version:
turn sharp left back on yourself at the Triangle Inn - follow instructions above.

Hard version:
after right hand corner leaving Ripponden take next left - Stubbings Lane (very difficult to spot until the last moment - it's opposite a wide opening to Claude Hellowell's Hauliers). Up the hill, round to the left, that road will join the road through Mill Bank as above.... That way just cuts out the nasty left-hand hairpin turn.
