Subject: RE: Fri. 16th july at Blacksmiths near York From: Nick Date: 19 Jul 04 - 06:22 PM Osson you are a top man - and wonderfully diplomatic (and I enjoyed your link). It was an observation - not a criticism. For a first go it was more than expected. Having 20-30 people in a room bursting to play is an interesting torrent to stem. I think it would need a pretty strong soul to control the desire to play that was there through till *cough* o'clock But on the bright side - starting a new thread to work out the next date... |

Subject: RE: Fri. 16th july at Blacksmiths near York From: GUEST,ossonflags Date: 19 Jul 04 - 02:03 PM Don't want to open up the old singers versus musos battle again Nick, but it always is a bit of a problem when you have a good clutch of musicians.I thought it was a little fiddle biased at one stage but that is how the ball bounces. Unless you have someone who is willing to take control ! And take it from me you have to be damned good/sober to control a load of festive musos when they are on a roll.A bit like minding mice at crossroads. Anyhow,we all enjoyed usselves and are itching for a return visit. You Fartington lot are more than welcome at my singaround /playaround at "the monks walk" pub in beverley, first sunday in the month.Watch mudcat for further details. And again thanks lots. |

Subject: RE: Fri. 16th july at Blacksmiths near York From: GUEST,Nick_ Date: 19 Jul 04 - 11:50 AM Richard - I'll try and extract some music over the next week or so and I'll then pop it on cd - is there a way I can get it to you? Send me a message or you can email me at music@nickblair.co.uk and I will sort something out Out of interest what was the name of the tune that was a favourite of yours that you played me on Saturday afternoon? Memory like a sieve and I can't recall it And glad people enjoyed themselves, I know the locals did. Perhaps more singing next time? I felt it was perhaps a bit biased towards tunes rather than songs. |

Subject: RE: Fri. 16th july at Blacksmiths near York From: Nick Date: 15 Jul 04 - 09:45 AM I understand there is already a small queue starting to form outside the curtain in anticipation and to pinch the best seats. (Too late!I've already put my towel there. Yuk, yuk.) Starting to wonder whether we will need to operate a shift system or perhaps suspend people from the ceiling or walls to accommodate all who want to play and listen. Or perhaps a system a bit like a Chinese restaurant where as soon as you put your instrument down the next sitting come in. It will definitely be cosy. We had a good evening last night to practice and are really looking forward to it from this end. Lynne (and I) enjoyed Christine and John's CD - thanks very much for it and we'll look forward to complimenting them on it when we see them. See you on the morrow. Subject: RE: Fri. 16th july at Blacksmiths near York From: Nick Date: 02 Jul 04 - 09:31 AM From North Yorkshire weather from the BBC - "May was warmer, drier and sunnier than normal this year... Sunny May Fortunately there were no hurricanes in May, indeed it may surprise you that the month was actually warmer, drier and sunnier than normal. How could we have a month without breaking a record! In fact this month's accolade goes to Fylingdales, high up on the North York moors, which recorded its highest ever May temperature - 27.8C (82F) on Saturday 31st May. Temperature 16.8 deg C (average 15.7 deg C) Rainfall 43mm (Average 56mm) Sunshine 197hrs (Average 185hrs) " So that would be about 6 hours a day to take the picture. How was it done? Well... We have some swifts nesting just above our bedroom window and have got to know them quite well. It was an easy job to teach them to use the digital camera (one holds it round his neck, one points it, and one pushes the shoot button) and they seemed to reckon it is a reasonable trade for a summer's accommodation. |

Subject: RE: Fri. 16th july at Blacksmiths near York From: Nick Date: 29 Jun 04 - 06:15 AM If you are ever in the area on a Wednesday, Carol, we are always there and you would be welcome. I don't know how far away you are so it's difficult to know if that's feasible. There is still some (very basic) information about where the pub is on the following : Blacksmiths Arms, Farlington (I will try and upload a few pix and a bit more information soon in case it's useful. Probably not today as I am in an ongoing-significant-age-birthday crisis today) |

Subject: RE: Fri. 16th july at Blacksmiths near York From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 29 Jun 04 - 06:08 AM What's the weather forecast? Do I need to bring my storm guy ropes and pegs? Do the toilets have wooden seats? What's for breakfast? Are the showers 20p for 15 minutes. Will there be any cow pooh on the grass? Is it flat or hilly? Is there a tree to wee behind? Will we be woken early in the morning by bagpipes as it's near Scotland? Are high heel shoes out of the question? I could go on. So I will! Will my double sleeping bag be big enough? How friendly are the sheep? Do they sell petrol up there? Should I invest in some new ski's? Can we keep any mushrooms that we find? Will there be any guards on duty? How can it be free? |
Subject: RE: Fri. 16th july at Blacksmiths near York From: el ted Date: 29 Jun 04 - 05:45 AM Yo Carol, Yes, we are planning one night only at the moment to see how it goes. If everyone has a titter we will hopefully do a full weekend in August. The Pub is ideal for it. So far I know that we have "the harri watts band" and "the Mick Tomlinson Experience" coming from Hull, and hopefully a Harp/uellian pipe duo breezing in from Harrogate. Oh, there will also be a lot of smock clad yokels as well! |

Are you doing it again later on in the year as normally I could have made it. |
