Subject: RE: Anybody in the Maritimes? From: Desert Dancer Date: 16 Jul 04 - 06:42 PM From my personal (and limited) experience a pithy summary: PEI is more civilised, Cape Breton is more authentic. Obtaining gigs would be more likely on PEI, I would think (it's bigger, with more people). To experience traditional music and dance where it lives, go to Cape Breton, where it's less swamped by tourist trash. Very different places to see, too. Depends on what you want and the time you have. ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: Anybody in the Maritimes? From: greg stephens Date: 16 Jul 04 - 05:58 PM I've heard from George S...not from marion's sister. Looks increasingly likel we may head for Prince Edward Island, though we havent really got any leads or contacts yet. Just have a gut feeling it might be interesting. Anone know anything? |

Subject: Anybody in the Maritimes? From: greg stephens Date: 15 Jul 04 - 11:17 AM Me and Kate Barfield(fiffler with the Boat Band) are interested in having a look round Prince Edward island and/or Cape Breton, sometime around Oct 14 20 (we are dividing time on a short visit to Canada, the rest of it around Ontario. So, anyone teel us anything really useful..best places to see, how we can get a little gig, musicians to socialise with, you know the kind of thing. People who live in houses with jacuzzis, next to small specialist breweries and attractively coloured autumnal woods. Stuff like that. (See also companion thread "we're Toronto bound" |
