A final attempt then crashed both Opera AND the computer (Windows Me).
I don't think I'll be bothering again.
Quack!
Geoff.

It doesn't work with Opera.
First attempt to click it crashed the browser instantly
Later attempts just don't load anything, but lock up the window.
Trying to open it in a new window brings an error message "javascript: URLs can only be run with HTML documents".
Quack!
GtD.

Worked fine using Mozilla Firefox but it downloaded the whole file before passing it off to Media Player.

Opens right away if I use Explorer rather than Netscape. Interesting, and good to know.

Thanks again Malcolm, success at last !

For anybody remotely interested, that's me doing the two fingered whistle, and the blonde lady next but one on my left is my wife Yvonne, looking suitably embarrassed ...

Thanks Malcolm. I tried your instructions, but still get the error message, with the details:

The path to the file is not correct
Windows Media Player cannot find the file. The server name, shared directory name, or file name may be incorrect.

Check the file name and path for any misspellings or discrepancies. If this error message persists, contact your content provider for the correct location of the file you want to play.

Error ID = 0xC00D1197, Remedy ID = 0x00000000

As, however, everybody else seems to be able to view it, it must be some obscure glitch on my computer

Right-click on the link and select "copy link location" or "copy shortcut", depending on your browser. You'll get

http://www.colcannon.net/video/glenfarg%20audience.wmv

Open Windows Media and select "open URL". Paste in the above. That should do it. It's rather slow to load, though, even on broadband.

Malcolm, that sounds more promising, how do I find the file location ?

Forgive me if that is a really stupid question ...

Well, I still can't get it to work, and my computer is supposed to be state of the art, 3.4Gh Pentium 1 Gig Ram, 2 meg Broadband etc etc, so how come, I ask myself ?

Thanks to everybody for helping out.

And that's me in the front row, btw ....

IE users will see the clip, but it looks as if the MIME type hasn't been set on the server, so non-Microsoft browsers may not recognise the file extension and some will open it as text. You can open Windows Media separately and copy the file location into it, of course, but it's always better if media file types are defined so that browsers know what to do with them.

No, it's not a bald guy convention, BPL - that's what folkies look like nowadays.
-Joe Offer, who used to have a full head of hair-

Oh, and yes, the video worked for me, but I didn't recognize anybody in it.

Works fine for me with DSL connection. Is it a bald guy convention? ;o)

I got the video just fine, but it's hardly worth the trouble. It's only about 30 seconds long and shows some people cheering and clapping. You might be able to recognize some people if they happen to be friends of yours.

On the machine that I'm using to post this (old and slow with Windows Media Player 6) it works fine, apart from the 'jerkiness' that is to be expected with a slow processor.

It works fine for me, Murray -- as fine a video of audience enthusiasm as one could wish for.

I don't get the error message you mention, but I don't get the video either...what I get is a screen full of typed garbage.

Would somebody like to help me out by going Here , and clicking on the link where it says "Glenfarg Audience". It is supposed to bring up a video (taken by one of the band members) of the Glenfarg Folk Club audience at the Colcannon concert last week.

I have Windows Media Player version 9, but all I get is an error message about filepaths and suchlike. I would like to know if it is just me or if other people have problems accessing the link.

Thanks in anticipation
