Understood. NPR.org (National Public Radio website) provides archived programs, but they do not put out nearly as much programming as the multi-channel BBC.

PoppaGator - they are getting more than enough stick about there "excessive" web presence at the moment. We are more likely to see "listen again" being cut.

Yes, you do. I use Goldwave Recorder, but I'm sure there's plenty of free download stuff out there that'll record anything currently playing on your machine.

Hey, I'm a bit new to this game - how can you record programmes like these from the website (other than putting a tape machine up to the PC speakers that is, which would be less than ideal I suspect)? D'you need special software?

Too bad BBC doesn't keep an online archive of past shows. Not only wouyld we have more time to listen to "Like A Rolling Stone," but we'd also be able to choose from a variety of previous editions.

The programme format is to take one song and do an in depth thingy on it each week . First one was Coward's 'Wild About the Boy' , then
a fifties Rock piece . Interesting bit of radio .

Thanks -- it's a great program!

I had a little trouble getting it started; I found it ncessary to locate "Music Documentaries" on the right-hand side of the *first* screen, i.e., not after selecting "Radio 4" first.

Being unfamiliar with the BBC series, I half-expected the show to address the genre of "soul music," i.e., Motown & Memphis, etc. Turns out that the series is concerned with any and all music that stirs the soul, I guess, and this installment is concerned exclusively with this one great Bob Dylan song.

It looks like the streaming audio will be available only for one week, and that once next week's "Soul Music" installment airs, it will replace this one on the web. Am I right? If so, I'd advise everyone to listen up now while they can...

Did anyone listen to this superb programme on Tuesday on Radio 4 at 1:30pm? It's still on the net HERE. Select "Listen to Radio 4" then search for Music Documentaries. The programme you want is called Soul Music.
The half hour goes into detail about why LARS was so appealing, with some fine snippetts from the archives, like the shout of "Judas" in the Manchester concert. Produced by Lindsey(sp?) Leonard, it's a keeper.
