Is it really a dry event? Not that it is needed but I often like to have a beer and enjoy the tunes...especially during outside events. Is there a designated area or is it like the 1920s?

I attended once, in 1968, and it was great.

I camped out (i.e., slept on the ground), and afterwards hitched a ride directly from the festival site to Chicago for the "festivities" at that year's Democratic Convention. My week in Chicago wasn't nearly as much fun as the previous weekend in Philly.

It's great to know that the Philadelphia Folk Song Society has continued to run this event for all these years.

Well you're dead on about the camping!
I've camped every year & I'm up way later than I should be.
But truth is I only hook up with some folks once a year in the PFF campground,so we make the most of our time together.

The reserved seating tickets only apply for the evening main stage concerts. That section is open to anyone during the afternoon main stage shows.

They have an excellent lineup this year,I'm looking forward to the weekend.

I'm going for the entire festival. I have reserved seats. Not camping since I want to get a little sleep so I can be fresh for the next day's music. While camping is a much better atmosphere than staying in a motel, it's hard to get some shuteye when there is so much going on until the wee hours of the morning. Maybe next time.

Great festival. Good mix of performers although I can see where it might be "too commerical" for some here on Mudcat.   The atmosphere is terrific. You can't help but have a great time!

Great festival. Great sound. The main stage is perhaps the most impressive large festival stage I have ever seen/heard and had the privilege to perform from. The festival itself is a logistical nightmare to pull off, but after 40+ years of doing it, the Philadelphia Folk Song Society can only be described as a well-oiled machine that knows what it is doing. Yes, I could make some complaints, but in the larger picture I have to be quiet about them and profess my respect for the awesome job they (and the performers) pull off.

You ask about things you should know...the web site can help you with a lot of that stuff

Is anyone going to the Philadelphia Folk Festival this year? I've never been there. Is there anything that I should know? Where's the best place to sit? How is the sound? Any reactions from previous years?
