Subject: RE: Friday or Saturday Folk Clubs From: muppitz Date: 20 Sep 04 - 09:11 AM I co-run a Folk club in Kirkby-in-Ashfield near Nottingham, which runs on a Saturday night, currently we only run once a month and only put guests on. However, we have recently relocated and the possibility of session nights is becoming more realistic, if this occurs we will be able to run once a fortnight. Children are welcome! Subject: RE: Friday or Saturday Folk Clubs From: Rasener Date: 19 Sep 04 - 06:06 PM What I meant by that GS, is that I am not sure if the publican allows children in. I have often thought of bringing my children, but haven't because I thought it might be breaking the law. Its really worth getting a decision on that, becuase quite often Lisa my oldest daughter wants to come with me, and I say no, because it isn't allowed. |

Subject: RE: Friday or Saturday Folk Clubs From: Big Al Whittle Date: 19 Sep 04 - 05:57 PM every two weeks theres the folk club at the 7stars pub Riddings near you , but it isn't a session gig. You have get up on stage and perform. Fri night that is. there are children in there often. very friendly. why not start one of your own. you would have to go round the folk clubs and tell people about it. Mick Peat would publicise it for you on the radio. There loads of session players on your pitch all the best al |

Subject: RE: Friday or Saturday Folk Clubs From: BB Date: 19 Sep 04 - 03:58 PM Depends how far you're prepared to travel, but this is what I've found in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire in a trawl through my database: Attic FC, Chesterfield - Sat. monthly Lift Global Music Club, Glossop - Alt. Sat Barley Mow, Matlock - Sat. Bingham FC - Fri. Robin Hood FC, Stapleford, Nottingham - Sat. 2nd Time Around FC, Beeston, Nottingham - Fri. Folk at the Paddock - Kirkby-in-Ashfield - Fri. Subject: RE: Friday or Saturday Folk Clubs From: greg stephens Date: 19 Sep 04 - 02:39 PM The Sunday lunchtime session is a venerable institution, and particularly well suited to the problem you have. if there isnt one near you, why not start one? Sounds as if you have a fine nucleus for a good get-together within your family, find the nearest possible hostelry and go for it. Why not, it's always worth a try. |

Subject: Friday or Saturday Folk Clubs From: sapper82 Date: 19 Sep 04 - 02:11 PM Right, I have a 15yo fiddler and 12yo guitarist who both enjoy sessions and Folk clubs. Problem; As most clubs and sessons are weekday evenings, they are unable to go because of school the next day. I am certain that there are other parents in this situation, so what is there on Friday or Saturday evenings? |
