Subject: RE: Kathryn Roberts & Kate Rusby From: Pete_Standing Date: 30 Oct 04 - 05:27 AM I've seen Kathryn and Sean a couple of times now and thought they were great. Kathryn has a fabulous voice and Sean's guitar playing is quite extraordinary. They play an interesting mix of songs and tunes with a varied dynamic. Conversely, I've gone off the boil with respect to Kate. I don't particularly like her voice anymore and feel her material has a tendency to sound all the same. |

Subject: RE: Kathryn Roberts & Kate Rusby From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 30 Oct 04 - 05:02 AM And Sean is the kind of young guitarist that makes old Slowhands like me want to take a lump hammer to his fingers! Brilliant and a very modest, nice guy. SJ :0) |

Subject: RE: Kathryn Roberts & Kate Rusby From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 30 Oct 04 - 04:59 AM Kathryn and Sean are appearing at the Gainsborough Folk Club on 12/11/04. Kathryn is a wonderful singer, keyboardist and flautist - shame she hasn't achieved the same stardom as Kate, she's equally talented (some of us might say more talented!). That's not to detract from Kate, she's a great performer and a grand lass, but IMNSHO Kathryn's her equal (at least). Kathryn and Sean have two CDs out - both excellent (check out 'The Granite Mill' and 'Georgia Lee' on the first one - they don't come any better). SJ :0) |

Subject: RE: Kathryn Roberts & Kate Rusby From: Sooz Date: 30 Oct 04 - 04:54 AM And at Gainsborough Folk Club on 12th November! Kathryn has probably developed more since her days as a duo with Kate. Her live performance with Sean is excellent and they have at least one album out together. |

Subject: RE: Kathryn Roberts & Kate Rusby From: Singing Referee Date: 30 Oct 04 - 04:49 AM Kathryn also has a great voice and also plays keyboard and flute. She and Sean Lakeman are currently on tour in the UK. They do a superb variety of trad and contempory songs, and Sean's guitar work is brilliant. They're on at the Duke of Marlborough, St Albans this Friday (5th November). Not to be missed! |

Subject: RE: Kathryn Roberts & Kate Rusby From: michaelr Date: 29 Oct 04 - 09:28 PM Nope, just the one. They grew up down the street from each other. But Kate's work since is worth checking out; she's become quite the folk music star. Kathryn made some albums with Equation which are OK, albeit more pop than folk, and still tours with (Sean? Seth?) Lakeman. Cheers, Michael |

Subject: Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts From: GUEST,Dave T Date: 29 Oct 04 - 07:30 PM Only just really started getting into folk music at the age of 47 (better late than never) and have just recieved a CD by Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts - what a brilliant album. Although they have very different and distinctive voices they both sound great. Does anyone know if they did any other albums together? |
