Subject: RE: 'Ordinary Heroes' in Northampton tonight From: George Papavgeris Date: 03 Nov 04 - 09:12 AM Lovely evening, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a great club, John New who runs it is a lovely fella (he did a great hunting song parody for vegans, called "a-hunting the Quorn"), the residents are all very good, and the punters very appreciative and great join-in-ers. About 35 on the night (I expect there'll be 50+ in 2 weeks' time for Jez Lowe). The room is upstairs, separate and with no sound interference from the main pub, plenty of space, non-smoking. The pub stocks Theakstons and the wonderful Natterjack (4.8%) from Frog Breweries, 300 yards down the road (their Croak and Stagger won top prize from the independent breweries 2 years ago). And the new, young landlord, Mark, with his lovely wife, are up for music big time. Mark even plays the bodhran and has played in the past with Christy Moore. All choruses were joined in with - even the "honours degree" one of "Underdog" - and they were not afraid to cry during "Christmas" and "Memory". Good club - very good! I thoroughly recommend it. Remember: Great Knight folk club, at the Black Lion, Marefair, Northampton town centre, alternate Tuesdays at 8:30pm. |

Subject: RE: 'Ordinary Heroes' in Northampton tonight From: Steve Parkes Date: 02 Nov 04 - 09:14 AM Well, I never knew Northampton was in the Midlands! But then anywhere south of Birmingham was a mystery to this Walsall lad till I moved to Milton Keynes. I know they've got some great road junctions there: you have to throw a six to get on in some places! Get over there and have a great time. (Sorry I shan't be able to make it, George: I've got to learn Empty-handed for Thursday night.) Steve |
