Thanks, Guests. That's about what I remember, although we sang the verses in the order I typed. The idea is that the angels sing to the shepherds, then the shepherds promise to go to the manger, then all involved sing a verse of rejoicing.

I think I got the news and the tidings a little mixed up.

These are the words I remember from 50 years ago. They go to the melody linked above.

Hark now, o shepherds, great tidings we bring.
Mighty the Monarch whose praises we sing.
O'er all the world a star brightly beaming
soft sheds its loving rays, gently streaming.
Shepherds, rejoice!

Angels, bright shining, [great tidings you bring].
News of sweet Mary and Jesus our king.
Straight shall we journey, forth gladly bringing
all our devotion, fervently singing alleluia.

See now in beauty sweet mother and child.
God's tender light o'er them, glowing and mild.
There in the manger lies Jesus holy,
son of the Virgin, Mary the lowly.
Glory to God!

Then followed a fancy Alleluia part, ending with a low 'Glory to God' by the second altos.

I'm not completely sure that the part in [] is right.

The Salt Lake Children's Choir (often sings with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) list it as a Czech carol. Can't find the lyrics.

I sang a song by this name in high school. I wonder if it was the same one. To find out, go to this web site and click on Kommet ihr Hirten, ihr Manner und Frauen.

http://ingeb.org/spirituk.html

If that is the tune, let me know, and I will type out what I remember.

Can anybody tell me the words to this beautiful Christmas song? I have it on a Mormon Tabernacle Choir cassette tape, but am unable to make out a lot of the words. Thanks...
