Subject: RE: Nathan Rogers, Stan's son... From: Jeri Date: 22 Nov 04 - 06:26 PM Clinton, do the liner notes say anything about the inspiration for the song? I have to order both of these. I don't think the world can have too many singer/songwriters named Rogers in it. |

Subject: RE: Nathan Rogers, Stan's son... From: Jeri Date: 22 Nov 04 - 06:13 PM Beebs, thanks. I've heard "Hibbing," and it's a great song. I look forward to hearing the rest. There were a few songs on his tape that I thought were absolutely brilliant. (Sent one - "Bodhisattva" to Max, which he played on a long-ago Mudcat Radio show.) Incidentally, the first CD on the Festival Distribution page in the "ordering" link is "Shining Thing" from Garnet Rogers. The title song is the one he sang at Rick's memorial, and I got the impression it was written for Rick, at least in part. |

Subject: RE: Nathan Rogers, Stan's son... From: Jeri Date: 19 Nov 04 - 07:35 PM I think lots of people with big enough egos to be performers can come off as pompous. It isn't a problem for me unless they treat other people badly. I met him the same time Bat Goddess did and also got the tape. I liked most of the songs a lot, but he most definitely has his own voice, both in song writing and singing. He can't help sounding like his father any more than he can help the face or the hairline, and I'd imagine his biggest problem might be the constant comparison to Stan. I liked his music, and I liked him. I'd like to buy his CD, too. If anyone knows where and how, please post the particulars. |

Subject: RE: Nathan Rogers, Stan's son... From: Cluin Date: 19 Nov 04 - 06:26 PM I've heard from many that knew him that Stan could be a pompous arse himself when he wanted to. I'm looking forward to hearing Nathan's music. |

Subject: RE: Nathan Rogers, Stan's son... From: GUEST,TS Date: 19 Nov 04 - 05:03 PM Have never heard the CD but have seen and talked and shared a drink with Nathan on afew occations...very pompous arse who's riding on Stan's shirtails...he's trying too hard...great singer..but dammit..sing like "Nathan" not "Stan". He often acts as though the world owes him something because of who his father is....now..Stan's Widow, Ariel...a gem...truly a beautiful Lady!... |

Subject: RE: Nathan Rogers, Stan's son... From: Bat Goddess Date: 19 Nov 04 - 01:20 PM I've had his tape "Single Takes" since, what was it, 2000 or 2001. He sounds VERY much like his father, on tape as well as in person. But definitely more of a contemporary style in the stuff he writes. Haven't heard hide nor hair of him since, though he kept in touch with a friend for awhile. He lost touch with her, too (or she with him -- he's slippery). Heard rumors that he's been performing around Canada, though, since I last saw him. Linn |

Subject: Nathan Rogers, Stan's son... From: ToulouseCruise Date: 19 Nov 04 - 10:18 AM Apparently Nathan Rogers has an album out, released this past spring. It is said his voice is similar to his father's, but is more of a contemporary folk style... has anyone heard it yet? Brian |
