Subject: RE: Looking 4 Cittern Chords From: Alex Date: 19 Nov 98 - 12:02 AM If you are trying to play in the Scottish and Irish tradition you should try tuning the instrument modally akin to the guitar DADGAD tuning. Depending on the frailty of the instrument start out with the pairs tuned (low to high) DGDGD or EAEAE (well, now that I look at it, it could be high to low) and work up from there (maintaining the same intervals) until the instrument begins to sound full and resonant and the string tension doesn't feel that something is going to break. You then have to use a capo at various frets to change keys. EAEAE capoed at 5 will give you ADADA. Most of the chords are one and two finger with the occasional three fingers needed. What kind of music are you trying to play? |

Subject: RE: Looking 4 Cittern Chords From: McMusic Date: 18 Nov 98 - 11:19 PM Kevin C, A couple of years ago I printed out a bunch of pages of cittern chord from a website which, unfortunately, is lost to my memory. If you want to, send me an e-mail (ktryan51@hotmail.com), giving me a place to send them and I'll dig 'em out if I can and run off copies for you. |

Subject: Looking 4 Cittern Chords From: Kevin C Date: 18 Nov 98 - 10:42 PM Hi Digi-friends, I'm looking for a resource book of chords (or a chord chart) for a CITTERN. Anybody got any ideas. All I can find are books for Mandolins, Octave Mandolins and Bouzoukis. The Cittern has an extra pair of strings tuned to a low C in addition to the same four course that the Octave Mandolin and Bouzouki have (tuned G-D-A-E). Thanx - Kevin |
